Wednesday night on CBS’ Survivor: Nicaragua, the Espada and La Flor tribes changed things up a bit, when host Jeff Probst called for a tribal switcheroo. And the coveted Medallion of Power was no more. So who went home on week 5 of Survivor: Nicaragua?
New Tribes
“Old vs, Young is done!” Jeff Probst exclaims. It’s time to consolidate the tribes. Brenda from the “Young” tribe and Holly from the “Old(er)” tribe are tapped to be the new leaders. Each is told to pick members from the opposite side to add to their new tribe. Here is how the new teams pan out:
Espada Tribe
Holly Hoffman, 44, Eureka, SD
Ben “Benry” Henry, 24, Los Angeles, CA
Alina Wilson, 23, Downey, CA
Chase Rice, 24, Fairview, NC
Naonka Mixon, 27, Los Angeles, CA
Tyrone Davis, 42, Inglewood, CA
Dan Lembo, 63, Water Mill, NY
Yve Rojas, 41, Kansas City, MO
La Flor Tribe
Brenda Lowe, 27, Miami, FL
Jill Behm, 43, Erie, PA
Jane Bright, 56, Jackson Springs, NC
Marty Piombo, 48, Mill Valley, CA
Jud Birza, 21, Venice, CA La
Kelly Bruno, 26, Durham, NC
Matthew “Sash” Lenahan, 30, New York, NY
Kelly Shinn, 20, Mesa, AZ
Reward Challenge
Next up it’s time to fight for reward. The prize? Two chickens and a rooster. In a bouncing ball challenge that seems more Big Brother than Survivor, the tribes fight neck in neck, with Espada finally winning.
A glimpse at the new tribe dynamics show Tyrone playing leader of his new tribe, but some- like Alina- don’t like the older tribe mentality. Meanwhile Jane likes the relaxed, new digs of her new La Flor tribe.
Next we see a new side of NaOnka. A * gasp* vulnerable side. Nay is scared to death of the heavy rains and with no tarp to shield her she is having a near panic attack. She’s very scared of the rain-and of worms- and considers leaving until Benry comforts her. Nice guy that Benry, telling her comforting tales of rainbows and whatnot.
Immunity Challenge
Pan to a sunny, Sesame Street kind of day. The storm has ended, but this week’s immunity challenge is anything but sunny. Three members of each tribe are strapped to a giant water wheel. While submerged they must swallow a mouthful of water, then spit it in a tube. When the tube is filled, balls are released and the balls are used to break tile panes. First tribe to break three panes, wins.
Fabio/Jud wins this challenge for La Flor. Meanwhile, even with some young’ins in the bunch, Espada just can’t catch a break. They decide to take their frustrations out on their chicken. In a scene that will have PETA screaming, they decide to kill the chicken. Tyrone protests wildly-he’d rather let the chicken stay a while and produce eggs. And while Tyrone doesn’t help de-feather and boil the chicken, he’s the first one in line to eat it, practically sucking the meat off the chicken bones. Meanwhile I am seriously considering becoming vegetarian after watching this scene. Ewww.
Espada takes note that Tyrone inhales more chicken than anyone else on the tribe, especially after his off the cuff remark about being conscious of your neighbors. This could come back to haunt him.
Tribal Council
Espada trudges to tribal council, where Alina complains about the new turf wars. NaOnka compares the sucky Survivor living conditions to the worst time in her life- when she got divorced. After her major meltdown earlier, NaOnka is in jeopardy, but in the end, Tyrone is sent home.
So what do you think his first stop will be when he gets back to the States? I’m thinking KFC!
