TV Guide Network previewed the upcoming new season of Survivor: Nicaragua with cast interviews, insight into the players, the tribal council set and a few challenges.
Former winner and three-time player Parvati Shallow hosted the TV Guide Network hour-long preview looking at Survivor: Nicaragua Season 21. Interviews of the contestants gave a bigger picture of what kind of players they’ll be and Jeff Probst gave his insight into the players. The tribal council set was shown, as well as artwork and a few challenges.
As previously reported this season of the popular strategic wilderness survival show will pit old vs. young. The older tribe Espada has 10 people over 40. The La Flor tribe is made up of 30-and-younger folks. We previously made predictions based solely on the pictures of the cast, now that we saw their actual personalities during the TV Guide Network preview show we have to reassess them:
Dan – 63- Real Estate Executive from Watermill, New York
He’s in shape but maybe not as shrewd as we previously thought. Also he says he dates younger women and already has his eye on the ladies in La Flor; which could be distracting for his game.
Holly – 44 – Swim Coach from Eureka, South Dakota
Is on Survivor because she wanted to do something for herself for once. She’s married to a politician and raised kids so her life has been about other people so far.
Jane – 56 – Dog Trainer from Jackson Springs, North Carolina
We erroneously said she would be voted out first. She actually seems tough and shrewd and could go far if aligned with the right people.
Jill – 43- ER Doctor from Erie, Pennsylvania
Isn’t going to tell anyone she’s an ER doctor but might alienate them because of her smarts and bossy nature.
Jimmy J – 67 – Sports Broadcaster from Islamorada, Florida
He realizes that he needs to be a team player and not a coach. Is on the show not for the money only for the adventure.
Jimmy T – 48 – Fisherman from Gloucester, Massachusetts
Actually got on the show through an online video popularity contest. He says that even though he might sound dumb he’s not.
Marty – 48 – Technology Executive (Yahoo!) from Mill Valley, California
Jeff Probst says this guy needs to tone down his “know-it-all” attitude if he wants to make it in the game.
Wendy – 48 – Goat Rancher from Fromberg, Montana
Her husband wisely told her not to sing on the show because otherwise she would annoy everyone else. Jeff Probst said she was one of the smartest contestants because she figured out the age-twist before it was announced.
Tyrone – 42 – Fire Captain from Inglewood, California
Probst says this guys looks like he’s mean until you hear him talk and then he’s just a big teddy bear. Tyrone says he just wants to help people.
Yve – 41 – Homemaker from Kansas City, Missouri
Yve actually seems pretty cool and real. Probst said she looked at the younger women and said in her head “you guys are not all that.”
La Flor Tribe:
Alina – 23 – Art Student at California State University (Fullerton) from Downey, California
Is going to flirt her way to the win.
Ben “Benry”– 24 – Club Promoter from Los Angeles
Jeff Probst said this is one of his favorites. Benry seems exactly like we predicted: shrewd, able to read people and affable.
Brenda – 27 – Paddleboard Company Owner from Miami
Very pretty actually and Probst likes her too. Not as ditzy as predicted either.
Chase – 24 – Pro Race Car Jackman from Fairview, North Carolina
Jeff Probst likes this guy too. He sings, he’s muscly but a bit too into himself.
Judson “Jud” – 21 – Student from Venice, California
This guy is a laid-back surfer dude who Probst compared to Jeff Spicoli in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. He actually seems a bit too laid back but he claims that will be his strategy.
Kelly B – 26 – Medical Student from Durham, North Carolina
Pretty much like we predicted: smart, pretty and tough. Even though she’s a leg amputee she doesn’t want to let that get her down.
Kelly S – 20 – Nursing Student from Mesa, Arizona
She’s the youngest and better watch out for Dan’s wandering eye.
Matthew “Sash” – 30 – Real Estate Broker from New York
Is influenced by Russell Hantz. This guy has some weird-looking chest hair and is a bit into himself too.
NaOnka – 27 – Physical Education Teacher from Los Angeles
Says she gets along with everyone and hopefully she will.
Shannon – 30 – Pest Control Co. Owner from Lafayette, Louisiana
We completely changed our mind about this guy. He’s really got an annoying personality. He’s married and has three kids, isn’t going to cuddle with any of the ladies, and is really outspoken. Prediction that he’ll get voted out early because of his obnoxiousness.
More Survivor: Nicaragua info:
This season will also introduce the Medallion of Power; which tribes can either use to take advantage of in a challenge or else choose to have a better reward.
The season and set is all about conquistadors, so expect fleur-de-lis and swords as well as Spanish influences. The immunity idol is a metal statue of a conquistador. The tribal council set looks like a ruined colonial building.
The challenges that the preview showed was tribes holding pipes to filter water into containers, going through a muddy field and hunting through hay stacks for puzzle pieces. The producers did say that this season the challenges will not be in the ocean because the waves are too fierce, so expect more land-based non-physical challenges.
Jeff Probst also mentioned that because Russell Hantz was so good at sniffing out Hidden Immunity Idols, this season it will be completely impossible to find them without clues.
Survivor: Nicaragua will air Wednesday September 15 on CBS at 8 pm.
