Secluded sites among the inland scrub pines are located in the aptly named shady pines loop while the more open areas that take full advantage of the Gulf breeze are located in the-what else-Gulf Breeze loop. Even if you have no tent or RV, don’t fret. You can still enjoy T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. Eight cabins with fold out beds and sleeping lofts with two queen sized beds can accommodate up to seven people per cabin. Stove, refrigerator and microwave plus additional kitchen utilities ensure you’ll be well fed and taken care of in these luxurious rustic retreats. A screen porch and central heat and air top of the gorgeous cabins. Minimum two night stay at $100 a cabin is required.
Bring your fishing poles and boat for some of Florida’s top Gulf of Mexico fishing grounds. Several boat ramps in the area and on site provide ample opportunities to put in or take out your favorite on water craft.
Bird watching is a big draw here as over 247 species of onshore and offshore birds have been spotted on this unique north Florida barrier island. Late September through October is a great time to spot migrating hawks and falcons from Canada and the northern US on their way to South America for the winter.
