Bring the troops home from Afghanistan President Obama. This war is past its prime and it is never going to be a “win” or achieve any notable goals. What were the goals of this war anyway? It has been going on so long no one can remember the original plan, let alone achieve it.
President Obama has previously stated that troops will start to leave Afghanistan in July 2011. Perhaps he should push up that date a bit. What is the point of continuing to let American soldiers be killed in Afghanistan? How many more lives will be lost in this futile war?
Attempted Attacks at Salerno & Champman Bases
Forward Operating Base Salerno and Forward Operating Base Chapman in the Khost province of Afghanistan were the scene of simultaneous attempted attacks by the Taliban.
The insurgents were wearing U.S. uniforms topped with suicide vests.
The security at the Salerns base was breached by several insurgents. They were then stopped. Twenty-one insurgents died at the bases and 3 more were killed in air attack. No American soldiers were killed in the attacks on the bases, notes the Washington Post. Four American soldiers were wounded in the base attacks.
The attacks occurred prior to dawn. One of the bases attacked was the spot where 7 CIA employees were murdered, notes the Huffington Post. What other kind of attacks are the Taliban planning? How many more chances will they have to try to surprise American soldiers with horrific attacks on their own military base?
Recently it has been revealed that several of President Karzai of Afghanistan’s aides have been on the payroll of the CIA. This certainly raises more questions about the integrity of the Karzai government. And yet some officials in the government dispute the reports that the CIA has connections with the Karzai staff.
What Will General Patraeus Do as Leader?
As General D. Petraeus takes control of this war, let’s hope the attacks on soldiers are quelled and that the horrific death rate slows down. America is not bringing change to Afghanistan, it is just experiencing the murder of too many soldiers.
Today three American soldiers were killed in various places in Afghanistan. And the 4 a.m. attacks on military bases shows that the Taliban is still very actively trying to murder as many American soldiers as possible.
America is not going to be able to eradicate the Taliban from Afghanistan. That is an unfortunate reality. And this war, and the Iraq war, just caused anti-American sentiment to increase dramatically, which of course helps the Taliban get new recruits.
This war was the spawn of President G.W. Bush. It needs to end as soon as possible. The war is a quagmire and America will never be able to declare victory.
