I highly recommend Tang Thai Restaurant and would give it 4 out of 5 stars. The 5th star was withheld because the decor, although clean and new, still is very basic and lacks a cohesive theme. This family owned BYOB restaurant features a regular and vegetarian menu. BYOB means you can bring your own beer or wine to enjoy with your dinner and that Tang Thai does not serve alcohol. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Your order is prepared fresh without the use of a microwave and well timed. In other words, no one rushes you. The servers wait until you and the members of your party almost finish with your first and second courses to alert the kitchen to cook your entrée.
Enjoy delicious Thai food, BYOB and plenty of free parking at Tang Thai Restaurant in the Manayunk / Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia. The smallish but ample and roomy dining area can accommodate couples on a date or or parties of up to 20 people with a reservation.
Expect all the Thai classics at this Manayunk / Roxboro restaurant. Coconut milk soups and curries along with pad Thai line the menu. The menu is ample but not extensive. I personally think this makes the food fresher and allows each dish to shine. The dinner menu at Tang Thai Restaurant also features nine kinds of salad including papaya salad and squid salad along with vegetable, crab or chicken dumplings. The least expensive item on the menu is Tang Thai House Salad for $4.95 and the most expensive dish is the Tamarind, Chu Chee or raspberry duck for $17.95.
Eat the lunch special, my personal favorite, for $9.95 and you won’t leave hungry. In fact you may have leftovers to take home for dinner. The lunch special at Tang Thai Restaurant comes with a substantially sized soup, an appetizer and an entrée.
I ate the Tom Kha soup, which is a vegetable soup with a fragrant coconut milk broth, vegetable dumplings and the vegetable pad Thai. Everything was delicious. The soup offers an abundance of fresh vegetables, the dumplings came with a yummy dipping sauce and the pad Thai is flavorful and not too sweet. I got my dishes 2-star spicy, but I would definitely go for 3 stars next time.
