It seems that the busiest exhibit at any zoo or aquarium is always the petting areas or the touch tanks.
Kids and adults really enjoy being able to interact with animals that they might not be able to see every day. Young children especially like farm animals, and being the mother of a young son, I am always looking for different zoos that have petting areas for him to be able to enjoy his time even more.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is such a place located in Georgia.
Tanglewood Farm is located in Canton, Georgia at 171 Tanglewood Drive.
This farm is really unique as it houses many miniature animals. Not only are these animals more your children’s size and cute, but young children might not be as scared to touch or feed these animals because they aren’t very big.
Not only does this farm have tons of animals such as miniature sheep, horses, and donkeys, but they are housed in a Wild West type town.
This town is really neat because it really feels like you are back in some western town from the 19th century.
They have a lot of different buildings, like a “saloon” and a “jail”. In the different parts of this neat village are the different animals you will encounter.
You can pet and feed these animals during your visit.
Tanglewood Farms is open Wednesday through Sunday, but their hours do vary. The cost to get in is only $10 per person.
The farm also allows groups, like church or school fieldtrips. You might need to contact them ahead of time, but small groups and single families do not need a reservation.
The really cool thing about this petting zoo is that the kids can not only learn about the animals, but also about living in this Wild West town. It is like a double fieldtrip in one.
If you do contact the farm about a school fieldtrip, they will basically set up the right tour for you and your class needs. As a homeschooling mom, I really like the idea of the employees of this farm working with individuals to get the most educational experience available.
Tanglewood Farms also does birthday parties and they can also bring animals to your event.
They take special pride in ensuring a fantastic time, with clean family fun.
If you want riding lessons, or want your children to learn responsibility by taking care of a pony, they also offer programs for these activities as well.
Overall, this just seems like a great place for school trips, or even to bring your own kids out for a nice day of barn yard fun.
