It’s a Friday night and you just got home from work, the kids are screaming that their hungry and your too tired to even begin thinking about making dinner. So what do you do? You reach for the takeout menus and decide to get Thai food thinking that it’s all healthy. But before you order from that menu read this, because some of those dishes aren’t as healthy as you think.
One of the unhealthiest options that you could order from that takeout menu is the green curry with sticky rice. According to BBC News, this dish has 29g of fat because of the coconut cream that is used in it. For an average male the recommended daily intake of fat is 50 grams, according to Health Central. That means that just by eating the green curry dish with sticky rice you’ve already eaten more than your daily amount of fat.
Another unhealthy option to get would be Pad Thai. Pad Thai is a dish that is stir-fry noodles that are fried in eggs and other ingredients and topped with peanuts and any kind of meat, such as chicken. According to The Nation, Pad Thai beat out pizza as the fattiest takeout dish that you can get in Australia. It has about 11.3 grams of fat per 100grams. So unless you want to be exercising right after dinner, you should go with a different option.
Thai fish cakes are also unhealthy, but for a different reason. There are not so much fatty as they are salty. They contain 201miligrams of sodium, according to Calorie King. If a fish dish is what you’re looking for, this is definitely not it.
Hoy Tod is another unhealthy Thai dish. It is fried mussels in batter, and has about 650 calories per serving, according to the Bangkok Post.
And last but certainly not (the least amount of calories), Thick Red Curry with Beef has a whopping 600 calories a cup. Let’s face it; no one ever just eats a cup of anything, especially when it’s takeout. There is about 55 grams of fat in the dish alone, according to Calorie King . This is another option that you want to stay away from if you want to keep your figure.
So next time you are thinking about getting takeout, think again. What you chose could determine if you’re fitting in your clothes the next day.
