Everyone was excited last year when the city’s Department of environment offered living Christmas trees. However, if you did not get on the waiting list early enough, you’ll be disappointed to know that they have officially sold out of them at their website .
Thankfully, local Parnassus business Cole Hardware was already thinking ahead. In addition to other environmentally friendly products offered to accommodate holiday decorating, they’re also offering living trees Christmas trees. In addition to Alpine Pine, Italian Stone Pine, Leland Cypress or Monterey Pine choices, a rosemary tree is also offered.
In addition to accommodating a greener Christmas, Cole Hardware is also giving Parnassus an opportunity to participate in the old Christmas tradition of donating to a good cause. When you buy locally made products by the Green Toy company, $1 of your purchase will be donated to the Arriba Juntos organization.
If you decide to buy a freshly cut tree, you can start buying them at Cole Hardware the week of Thanksgiving. If you are concerned about recycling your Christmas tree after the holidays, consult the customer service people at Cole’s.
Although San Francisco public works departments usually post up to the minute information about Special projects like Christmas tree pickup or recycling, there is not current updated information online about 2011 expectations.
