Another Thanksgiving approaches, and once again, you’ll be expected to pull it all off with seemingly no effort. Cook the meal, clean up the mess, put up decorations, take them down – it’s all tradition and you love it! But that doesn’t mean it’s easy! Trying to come up with new ways to decorate for Thanksgiving is challenging in itself. Right off the bat, you know you’ll need a magnificent centerpiece for the dinner table. You don’t have to go shopping to make that centerpiece yourself. In fact, look no further than your kitchen cabinet to find exactly what you need to turn ordinary things into Thanksgiving decorations.
Ordinary Thanksgiving centerpieces, with their leaves and pinecones and cinnamon sticks, have been done to death. This year, create something spectacular that’s simple yet elegant. Use beans to turn candles, pumpkins, gourds and similar things into unique centerpieces and table decorations. Dry beans instantly change the look of these ordinary things into real décor pieces.
One example of using beans to decorate a candle is done by cutting a wide piece of paper to go around a pillar candle. Wrap the paper around the center of the candle and tape it for now. Use a nail, pencil or other implement to make a line along the top and bottom edges of the paper. Remove the paper and add beans to the area between the two lines.
Using hot glue to attach the dry beans makes the project move along quickly. You can choose to align the beans all in neat rows or just randomly glue them inside the lines. This technique instantly gives a holiday look to a candle or even a small pumpkin.
There are lots of different designs you can do to make the Thanksgiving décor. Use beads or even dry peas instead of beans, combine beans and peas together, or even paint the beans and peas. Spray painting these foods opens up a realm of possibilities for color combinations and designs. Since you can also paint pumpkins and gourds there are literally no limits to the different centerpieces and other decorations you can make for Thanksgiving.
Gather a group of the decorated candles in the center of the table. Or, place a decorated pumpkin in the center and position short pillar candles around it. Even add other things, like fake leaves and small pine cones, to create just the look you want.
