Clay Pot Pilgrim Hat
You can see a photo of a clay pot pilgrim hat if you click here. Viewing the photo will give you a better idea of how to complete the craft.
To make this craft, you will need a clay pot (you can use any size), black paint, black craft foam, white craft foam, and white ribbon. You will also need other common craft supplies like glue, scissors, a paint brush, etc.
Start by painting the entire outside of the clay pot with black paint. You do not need to paint the inside of the pot. Let the paint dry completely.
Cut a circle out of the black foam about 1/2 to 1 inch larger than the opening of the pot. This circle will become the hat’s brim. To cut a perfect circle, use a saucer or some other round object that is slightly larger than the large end of the clay pot.
Using the photo as a guide, cut a small buckle out of yellow foam. Also cut a piece of white ribbon long enough to wrap around the large edge of the pot. Pass the ribbon through the buckle by starting from the back side, going over the center of the buckle, then passing the ribbon back down through the buckle slot.
Glue the hat band (the ribbon with the buckle) to the pot as seen in the photo. Then glue the pot upside down on the black circle of foam to make the brim. Let the glue dry and you are done!
Make a bunch of these hats to give as party favors to your Thanksgiving holiday guests. They also make a nice gift for your child’s teacher.
You can also use these clay pot pilgrim hats as cute place cards. Make the hats using small 2 inch clay pots. Then make flags by gluing a slip of paper to a white straw. Write your guest’s name on the slip of paper then stick the flag in the hole at the top of the pilgrim hat. The little hats will direct your Thanksgiving guests as to where to sit at the dinner table!
For Christmas, you can turn these pots into Santa hats. Paint the pots red, make a white hat band with a black buckle, and glue a white pom pom on the top of the hat.
