Savory smells are wafting through the air.
A quick check of the turkey, it’s almost there.
The doorbell rings bringing family and fun,
Our Thanksgiving Day has just begun.
The guys have gathered round the TV for football
We hear them cheering and arguing almost every call.
The ladies are in the kitchen with the gossip
Each bringing the news and the latest hot topics.
Green bean casserole and yummy sweet potatoes
Are pushed into the oven to warm next to the rolls.
The salad is tossed and the dressings are placed,
So each of us can have our favorite tastes.
Mountains of mashed potatoes are ready
And Mom is making her famous egg gravy.
One more quick peek at the star of the hour
It’s looking brown and tasty and ready to devour.
“Come on, You Guys, We are ready to eat”,
The stampede to the table as each reaches his seat.
Finally all settled; we sit silent for Grace
And give Thanks for our family and the food we partake
We give Thanks for the Blessings we each have been given,
The joys and the friendships this holiday season.
As the noisy eating commences around the huge table
I watch each face filled with love and joy and am able
To truly know how blessed I have been.
To have raised my sons from babies and now to young men,
To see them here with their wives and their own kids.
Is the best gift a mom could ever wish for and get.
