I first started playing Runescape in 2001 and 9 years later – after playing and quitting, then quitting and playing again – Runescape has become a completely different game.
The Grand Exchange
Adding the Grand Exchange to Runescape was one of the single-most important new implementations to Runescape that has ever taken place in the history of the game. The Grand Exchange (GE) allows Runescape players to quickly sell objects to one another without joining online forums, bartering in banks, and staying stocked up with Runescape items that you’ll never be able to sell. The GE has helped RS players level quicker, become more profitable, and has overall made the Runescape more enjoyable than it had ever been before the GE was brought to Varrock.
If you were around for Runescape Classic, you’d totally agree with me when I say that the graphics of Runescape has greatly improved over the years. Even if you started playing Runescape a few years ago, playing Runescape nowadays seems like a whole new game. Runescape is still no World of Warcraft in terms of graphics, but the graphic changes made to Runescape has helped to make a much better MMO than it was when it was first launched.
Random Event Changes
Random events were added to RS to stop cheaters, bots, and macro users, but more times than not; random events hurt legit gamers than cheaters. Over the years Jagex has gotten rid of the most annoying random events – Trolls, Big Fish, Whirlpool, etc. – changed how often random events occurred, and now allows users to receive the rewards they’d prefer after completing a random event.
Double XP Weekends
Double XP Weekends are controversial, but I can’t help but admit that I’m a big fan of them. During Runescape’s Double XP Weekends, Runescape players are rewarded up to 2.7 times the experience they’d normally receive from leveling skiils. This new opportunity allows RS players to level up annoying and long taking skills like Agility, Herblore, and Thieving a lot easier by helping them gain extra XP during rare 3 day Double XP Weekends.
Back when I started playing Runescape, you could only level a skill by taking aside time to focus on that particular skill and train it for hours/days/weeks/months, but nowadays Runescape allows multiple skills to be trained at once from time to time, agility can now boost certain skills, and Runescape players are now able to train a lot more faster and with greater efficiency.
