How many people on AC share your name? This game, started by Candice L. Collins states to check out AC for Contributors with the same first name as yours, spelled exactly the same way.
There are a few other rules to the game as well, which you can read about in Candice’s article detailing The AC Same Name Game.
Unfortunately, no one on AC spells their first name exactly like mine. The closest was one spelled, “JoLynne”, but she had no profile picture and no published content, which are requirements in the game. However, she does have listed in her profile that she is a belly dance instructor. I could do that…not that I would…
So in my case, I had to stretch the rules a little so I can meet more contributors that share my name. It’s really hard to find others with the same spelling of my name anyway, it has so many variations and is really almost like two names put together. Well, for some people it actually IS two names put together. Oh well, on with my search.
I took the letter “e” off the end, which leaves “Jolynn”. Then I took off the second “n”, leaving “Jolyn”. Both of these gave the same results of no profile picture or no published content. I didn’t realize my name was so unique. When I was in high school, there were two other girls with my name, both spelled “Jolynn”, so I was still the only one (Ha! Almost like a “Tigger”!)
I am determined to meet at least one person with a name that is very close to mine here at Associated Content/Yahoo!
So, I tried again by splitting into two names, which is more common. Upon trying the name as two parts, I was given a list of content rather than contributor names, even using the specific “contributor search” function. I decided to try just “Jo” and sift through for those with any variation of “Lynne” as a middle name.
There are 332 contributors with “Jo” in their names, not always as a first name. A “Jo Lynn” with no profile picture. A lot of “Jo’s” with no pictures or published content. Some seemingly clever takes, such as “Jo 6pak” and the like.
My last chance to even come close to playing this game is to use only those who have the first name of “Jo”, which was my childhood nickname anyway, with no middle name listed. There were several “Jo Ann’s” with pictures. Out of 332 contributors, barely any had profile pictures with just “Jo” listed with a last name. I was able to find a whopping three Contributors with profile pictures and recently published content.
Don’t forget to check out my profile, as I seem to be the only active Jolynne on AC/Yahoo!
Jo Adamson just started writing for AC/Yahoo this year and has 139 pieces of published content. Her bio excerpts: “I’ve had my one-act plays performed in Washington, Oregon, California, Florida, and Canada. Several of my plays have appeared on cable television…[lists plays and acknowledgments, removed due to length, please view her profile for more information]… I am a published short story, article, and poetry writer. Twice my poetry was accepted for the Poetry Bus Project in Seattle, Washington.”
Jo Brielyn is a Featured Parenting Contributor. Her bio states: “Jo Brielyn is a mother, youth worker, and freelance writer with an extensive background in education and dealing with children. She is a contributing writer with Hatherleigh Press and also writes for online and print publications. Her prize-winning short stories and poetry appear in several anthologies. Jo is currently working on a humorous novel for children.” She has been a Contributor at AC/Yahoo since January, 2008.
Jo Jackson jut began writing for AC/Yahoo this past July. Her bio states: “This visionary’s accomplishments have been awarded numerous accolades, including Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Jim Kolbe for her extensive community service to Tucson. Some of Jo’s myriad creative talents include Public Speaking (motivational and educational seminars); Co-founder of two non-profit organizations: Triad (local search and support group for those separated by adoption) and The Silent Dinner Club (a community bridge between Deaf and hearing cultures); Accomplished seamstress (specializing in personalized crib linens and baptismal clothing); Psych and addiction nursing; and of course free-lance and creative writing!”
Wow! The other “Jo’s” on AC all have awards and recognition for poetry and creative writing, among others. Though somehow I fear the accomplishments of these lovely ladies would take more for me than just shortening my name to “Jo”. That’s OK. I’m a published poet myself, and although I may not have the awards, fame and acclaim as the others, my fans and friends here at AC still appreciate me just the way I am.
