The so-called Serenity Deck is a special area of a Carnival cruise ship reserved specifically for adults to come and relax in peace and quiet. Children and teens are strictly prohibited from entering this area. Adults come to the Serenity Deck to get away from the hustle and bustle cultivated throughout the rest of the ship. It is an island of tranquility amid a festive storm.
Unlike the majority of the public areas on the ship, there is no entertainment or organized activity on the Serenity Deck – no band, no comedy act, no musician, no bingo, and so on. No food or beverages are served here, either, though it is permissible to bring a plate of food from the buffet and/or a drink if you want. The noise level of the area depends entirely on how many people are having conversations and at what volume, but it is usually fairly quiet.
The best feature of the Serenity Deck is its hot tubs. Yes, there are hot tubs in the main public area of the ship, near the pool. However, these hot tubs in Serenity are light years better, for two reasons. First, of course, because these hot tubs do not have children playing in them. They are often completely empty, especially in the evening; but anyone who is soaking in the hot tub is actually sitting and soaking, perhaps quietly lost in his or her own thoughts, or perhaps engaged in polite conversation with someone else. There is no splashing or other horseplay here. You can relax and really enjoy a good, proper soak. Second, these hot tubs are very hot! They are significantly hotter than the hot tubs near the pool. Once again, this is because there are no children in them. Although we all know that young children are more susceptible to suffering side effects from overexposure to hot water and that children are much more likely than adults to stay in too long, people let their kids play in the main hot tubs anyway. Therefore, Carnival keeps those hot tubs fairly lukewarm in temperature. By contrast, these hot tubs on Serenity Deck are properly hot. Your tired muscles will thank you.
Aside from the hot tubs, most of the Serenity Deck is filled with lounge chairs. You can sunbathe, or sit in the shade, as the Serenity Deck offers both sunny spots and covered spots. It is a perfect place to read, to stare at the ocean, or to catch a nap in the open sea air.
The lack of kids is also a great feature. Even the best-behaved kids are not conducive to quiet and relaxation. Whether you’re a parent who wants some quiet time away from your kids, or you’re a child-free adult who just wants some time in a more placid environment, you’ll find that environment here.
And, hey, the kids have their own special area of the ship, and the teens have theirs, so this is ours.
