The Apprentice 2010 season premiere brought us a new cast of 16 participants. The Apprentice 2010 season premiere this year is a bit different than in the past though, as Donald Trump brought in contestants that have had bad breaks in the past few years, and most of them are currently unemployed. Now they have all been brought together for a second chance on The Apprentice this season. The first segment had Trump asking many of the contestants what brought them to the show, and some of the stories were actually pretty sad. Maybe that will also motivate this cast to be more energetic and to excel at the challenges in front of them.
The Apprentice: Men vs. Women
The contestants were split up into two teams, with the men against the women this season. Trump covered how he wanted them to all be tough this season, and then sent them off to come up with team names and a first project manager for each side.
The men came up with the team name “Octane”, even though a couple of them didn’t really like the team name. One of them nominated Gene, and he decided to take up the challenge for the men’s team this week. It was an odd way for things to begin, because Gene was really painted into a corner by being nominated.
The women came up with the team name “Fortitude” in order to make a statement early in the game. The first project manager was decided to be Nicole, as she stepped up to the plate right away, and put herself out there in the first chance that she got. It was a move that everyone would have to respect, but at the same time she had to know that she was taking a risk at making that move.
The Apprentice Episode 1 Recap
Ivanka Trump announced that the first challenge of the season would be to design and build an ultra-modern workspace. The winning team was told they would receive something nice, while the losing team was told that they would have someone fired.
During the beginning of both teams getting started on the project, it seemed like both Gene and Nicole were having a bit of trouble getting things started on the right track. Tyana on the women’s team thought her ideas were being ignored by Nicole, so she put herself in charge of just coming up with the paint colors. On the men’s side it was James that was having problems with Gene about getting ignored. It seemed really obvious that most of these contestants weren’t used to working on teams with more than one leader as a part of it.
Gene and David got very frustrated with each other on day one of the task, and it came to some rough words exchanged between the two of them. On day two of the task though, Gene finally started seeing that he needed to lead in a different style to get the support of the other guys on the tasks. Over with the Fortitude team, they were struggling to figure out how to set up the décor of the room, and that led to some frustrated comments in their camera interviews to the audience.
When asked who was here biggest help and detriment by Trump’s son, Nicole stated that her biggest help was Tyana, after she felt Tyana was her biggest detriment on day one. Tyana overheard that, and pulled him aside later.
Donald Trump Visits the Two Work Spaces
Donald Trump went out to view both of the work spaces before coming to an ultimate conclusion on which team would be winning the challenge. He started out with Fortitude, and his first question was about a painting of a man that the group had decided to put in the executive office. It was an odd choice, because nobody knew who the main in the painting was, but when asked, Nicole called it the father of team Fortitude. It’s an odd painting to have behind an executive desk though, and it’s hard to imagine anyone that would want it up in their office.
When Donald Trump showed up to check on the Octane team, Gene started showing people the office, but during the presentation, one of the team members and a crew member slipped on an unanchored rug and fell to the floor. It was an embarrassing moment during the showing of the office, and definitely something that could be a liability or get someone fired in a real-life situation.
The Apprentice Season Premiere First Boardroom
Right out of the gate Trump stated that he didn’t like either space, and the show went to commercial on that note. There was a lot of time left for the debate in the boardroom, and unfortunately that also led to a lot of filler from NBC when it came to commercials. It also presented an opportunity for the contestants to talk badly about both project managers and what took place during the challenge.
With neither office space appealing to Donald Trump, the kids of Trump both picked the Octane teams efforts. He ended up agreeing with what they had to say, and it earned the men the victory in the first episode. For being the winning project manager, Gene got to have a one-on-one meeting with Donald Trump.
The women stayed behind, and Nicole (the losing project manager) was told to select two people to come with her to the boardroom, where one of the three would be fired by Mr. Trump. She selected Tynna and Mahsa as those two people, and it wasn’t surprising that they were the two most vocal people about Nicole’s problems during the task. It seemed really clear that Nicole should be sent home, but there was a whole lot of filler being put in to the episode that really dragged it out to fill the two hour time slot.
In the end it was Nicole who was fired by Mr. Trump, but Mahsa didn’t make herself look good by making some rude comments in front of the three Trumps. Now they will be watching her much closer in future projects.
