Multicolored Tibetan prayer flags flap in the wind from the peak of the surreal bright yellow and red trimmed technicolor structure that resembles a car dealership from a Disney cartoon looming over Gold Street. Although it may look like like a cross between a Dali painting and a building from the set of Teletubbies it is in fact Dorje Ling, home of the Jonang masters trained in the Kalachakra Tantric system and the seat of the Tibetan Buddhism in South Brooklyn.
The center was founded in 1991 by Tulku Tashi Gyaltsan Rinpoche, who is recognized as the incarnation of Jetsun Taranatha, a famous yogi and scholar in the history of the Tibetan tradition. He has preserved and reprinted many traditional texts and teachings, providing a great cultural resource for the community. The center also offers courses such as ‘How To Achieve the Realizations in the Bardo’ and ‘Vajrayogoni Meditative Visualizations’. Dharma teacher Khenpo Choejor offers additional teachings via telephone conference for those unable to attend the center.
