In an “announcement” that has been weeks in the making- and in what has also been the worst kept secret in reality television since the American Idol judges announcement- ABC has finally revealed the identity of the season 15 star of their hit series, The Bachelor. So who will be the new Bachelor? Hint: if you’re hoping for a broken hearted reject from last season, it’s not who you think.
During a break in the Dancing With the Stars action on Monday night, Bachelor host Chris Harrison appeared alongside the new season 15 Bachelor. And the rumours are true– the new Bachelor will be Austin, Texas bar owner Brad Womack. But there’s just one thing: Womack is anything but new to The Bachelor.
In case the name doesn’t completely ring a bell, Brad Womack was previously the star of The Bachelor Season 11, but he walked away from the show with his final rose still in hand, choosing not to give it to either one of his final two ladies, DeAnna Pappas or Jenni Croft. Now does it ring a bell?
Womack ended up receiving a ton of backlash for his single guy finale, resulting in him being one of the most hated bachelors in the history of the show (alas, Jason Mesnick quickly replaced him after his own public infamous Melissa Rycroft dumping).
Bachelor blogger Reality Steve broke the Womack news last week and since then fans have had their share of opinions. According to Us Magazine, View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck weighed in on the matter, saying, “He didn’t have enough choices before? How many women do you need, Brad?” She advised the Bachelor producers to rethink their decision on giving Womack another shot at love.
But on Monday night Womack appeared alongside Bachelor host Chris Harrison to grin at the news of his return as The Bachelor 15. DWTS host Tom Bergeron shouted out, “Brad, pick someone this time!”
The only people shocked by the news of Womack’s repeat stint as The Bachelor are people who never read the spoilers. Our condolences to Chris Lambton fans.
But indeed, this time around it would be a shock if Brad Womack walks away single. While Womack may not come off of his repeat Bachelor stint engaged, he will most certainly come away from it dating. Because hell hath no fury like a Bachelor fan scorned.
So what do you think- does Bachelor Brad Womack deserve a redo?
The Bachelor Season 15 will air beginning in January 2011 on ABC.
