The Best Place to Buy the Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD and Blu-ray Versions

by bogbit

Twilight fans are just days away from being able to watch The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in their own homes. The movie will be released in the U.S. on DVD and Blu-ray on December 4, 2010. Where is the best place to buy your copy of Eclipse?

There are five different versions of Eclipse, so it’s important to decide which version you would like before comparing prices. Here are the different versions and the prices that are currently being offered online:

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD (Single-Disc Edition)
This version is the movie-only version. While it is a couple dollars cheaper, it doesn’t have the special features included in other versions. The lowest current price online is Walmart at $16.96. Target, Amazon, and Best Buy are only a few pennies more at $16.99.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Blu-ray (Single-Disc Edition)
This version is the movie-only Blu-ray version without special features. The lowest current online price is Barnes & Noble at $22.74. Walmart’s version is priced at $22.96. Most of the other stores are selling it for $22.99.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse DVD (Two-Disc Special Edition)
In my opinion, it is worth it to spend a few more dollars to get the two-disc Special Edition. The Special Edition includes the much anticipated audio commentary with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. There is also audio commentary with the Twilight saga author Stephenie Meyer and producer Wyck Godfrey. Special features will include a photo gallery, a six-part “Making of Eclipse” documentary, and music videos from the Eclipse soundtrack. You will also be able to jump to all of your favorite Edward and Jacob scenes.

The lowest current price online is Barnes and Noble at $21.44. Walmart is the next cheapest at $21.46, and Target and Amazon are selling the Special Edition DVD for $21.49.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Blu-ray/DVD Combo (Special Edition)
Included in this version is both a DVD and a Blu-ray version of the movie. Both versions include the audio commentaries with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Stephenie Meyer and Wyck Godfrey and a six-part documentary. On the Blu-ray side, there is a picture-in-picture feature added to the documentary. It also includes deleted and extended scenes, a photo gallery, music videos, and jump to capabilities for Edward, Jacob, the love triangle, the Cullens, the Wolfpack, the Humans, Victoria’s army and Action Sequences. The lowest current price for the Blu-ray/DVD combo is Walmart at $26.46. Target and Amazon are both selling the combo for $26.49.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Collector’s Editions
At the time of writing this article, the only two stores advertising a collector’s edition are Target and Best Buy. My guess is that many stores are waiting until Black Friday to reveal what kind of goodies they will use to try to persuade Twilight fans to shop at their store.

Target’s Collector’s Edition
Available only at Target is a 2-Disc Collector’s edition with exclusive packaging and six collectable photo cards. The photo on Target’s website shows photo cards of Bella with Jacob, Bella with Edward, Riley in water, a close-up of Jacob, a close-up of Edward, and the Cullens preparing for battle. The price for the Target’s Collector’s edition is $27.99 for DVD and $34.99 for Blu-ray/DVD.

Best Buy’s Exclusive Edition
On the Best Buy website, they claim to have an Exclusive edition for $26.99 for DVD and $36.99 for the Blu-ray/DVD version. Besides showing a slightly different cover, it does not give details about what makes their version an exclusive edition.

Amazon’s Watch It Now
If you are unable to get to a store to purchase Eclipse on December 4, don’t worry! Amazon is advertising the option of renting or buying a digital copy from their site beginning December 4. For $14.99 you may purchase the video online and download it to two locations. Or you may rent Eclipse for 24-hours for only $3.99.
