It seems all too soon that the holidays creep up on us. It seems just last week I was wearing shorts and flip-flops and now we’re crashing into the cold weather. Stores are beginning to abuse their playing rights for Christmas tunes, shopping malls are decked to the hilt with glitzy trees, tinsel and dorky dancing Santa’s. But what makes the holidays even more daunting and somewhat stressful is finding that perfect gift for the people you love. You dread shoving past the sea of people in the mall or toy stores. This is the main reason why I highly suggest online shopping for as much as you can. You avoid some of the stress and those high-speed, monster like crowds.
But there’s always the question of what to buy? There’s so many things out there its hard to know what’s worth it. Well, as an electronic fanatic and somewhat obsessed with gaming as well, these are the great video game I suggest to give this Christmas.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Now, let’s be honest: a few years ago I completely missed all the hype over spending hours in front of the TV making some little guys in helmets run around shooting people on a screen. I didn’t see the attraction. But a little while ago I stopped in at Best Buy and became completely enthralled with this new Call of Duty game.
I’ll expound a little: in the game you are a shadow soldier in the Cold War. You must execute your most tactical approaches for every mission as well as stealth throughout the diverse playing settings ranging from urban air and ground combat in SE Asia, to snow combat in Soviet region and jungle combat. So let’s just say, your surroundings never get boring. It has no choppy plays and the whole story is very smooth without any obvious errors.
So if you love the thought of being a one-man army, this game is a must for all action seeking gamers.
DJ Hero 2
Now, you may already be familiar with the first DJ Hero. This game enables you to show off your skills even better than the first. It has more freestyles, which enables you to play a mix different every time and (in my opinion) the songs are a dozen times better as well. It has a new story mode called ‘Empire”, which starts you out as a lowly warehouse DJ on the road to becoming the head of a major music empire. Climb the ladder and you might even have your own label. But the fun continues.
DJ Hero is a great party game but this second version makes it even more compatible for parties. You can hook up two turntables for severe battles. You can steal your opponents’ rewinds, freestyles and more. And you can even hook up a microphone (which comes with the party pack) to MC your music or add a singer to the game. So I must say this game is probably better than the first one.
Already have the first DJ Hero? No problem. Simply purchase the DJ Hero 2 game disc and add to your set list. No need to buy a new turntable or new equipment.
Def Jam Rapstar
Def Jam Rapstar gives you a little insight on what exactly it’s like to be on top of the rap game. With tons of different play modes you’ll never get bored. You can rap along with the hottest beats and artists, and even film your own music videos with your consoles camera. You can also edit your voice with flangers and auto tuners as well as add flashing lights and other cool effects to your music video. Then you can upload your video to the Rapstar social network. Spread your videos and music around the site by adding friends and climbing up the popularity chart. Get enough viewers and fans and you may even get noticed by the big boys at Def Jam.
When in party mode you can even add singers to help your beats and sing along karaoke style to the best hits of early hip-hop and current rappers. Feeling creative? You can make your own freestyles any way you want too. You can make your own beats, rap your own lyrics and make your own music video.
Using the games social network other players can even battle you to a rap off no matter where you are on the globe. It’s a great party game as well as a more interactive way to play video games. And best of all, you can make your own music and promote for free.
Although I’m a fan of the new 21st century Bond movies I’ll be honest: the first James Bond video game was a huge let down to fans all over the globe. The graphics were juvenile and it seemed all you did was walk around spraying ammo at aimless shadows.
But the new game Blood Stone has immensely improved. With amazing graphics, harder tactics and much better car chase action this game ranks up high on my list. In the game you are in third person view of this action scene. You play James Bond as he battles through Istanbul, Athens, Monaco and many others, as he subjects himself to city streets, rooftops, casinos, oil refineries, dams and even hovercrafts all to save the UK’s most valued secrets.
The animation is much improved as well as the voices. The game actually uses Judi Dench and Daniel Craig to voice the characters, which is a huge benefit in my mind. The cars are fast, shiny and incredibly fun to race thorough winding tunnels and high cliffs. The only slight problem I find is the way they portray Bond’s killing habits. In some spots they simulate him standing in the middle of battles, spraying ammo anywhere he can. Seemingly pointless. But they redeem themselves with adding in a few gadgets and much better planning as far as weapons go. I highly suggest this for action and adventure seekers this Christmas.
