The Bible is the true source of inspiration in the world because it has the answers to our seemingly hopeless situation. We know we live in an imperfect world, there are problems everywhere, and this is not the way things should be. Even worse, we know that we are not perfect, we make mistakes, do silly things, foolish things, even bad things. So we know we are part of the problem, and we have broken God’s laws and sinned. We know beyond a shadow of doubt that we are separated from God.
The Purpose of Religion
The whole purpose of religion is to find our way back to God, to be forgiven for our sins, to stand before God, and to live the life, the eternal life that God has planned for us. The Bible is the true source of inspiration in the world because it explains exactly how to do this.
The key to being right with God, to being part of God’s Salvation Plan is found in John 3:16. That verse is probably the clearest explanation of God’s Salvation Plan, and this is how He explained it: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
So, what does it mean to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. It simply means that He is your Savior and the Lord of your life. He is your Savior because He died on the cross to pay for the penalty for your sins, so you can be forgiven for your sins and be right with God. Since we know we are imperfect sinners, we want to turn away from our sins and do things God’s way. So we accept Jesus as the Lord of our life and we begin to live for Him by doing everything in life the way He would like us to live. We believe in Him, we have faith in Him, and we believe He will carry us through every problem in life.
In the very next text, John 3:17, God explains that Jesus came into the world to rescue us from our sins, and not to condemn us. The Bible explains it this way: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Then in John 3:18 God reinforces that our sins are forgiven and we are right with God. The verse states that “He that believeth on him is not condemned:…”
God gives an assurance of our salvation in that same chapter in the Book of John. In John 3:36 God assures that “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:…”
God gives us even additional assurance in the same Book of John. Jesus Himself explains it in John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
