“The Big Bang Theory,” a hit CBS sitcom airing at 8 pm ET on Thursdays, features the comic misadventures of four scientists in Los Angeles, California. The eighth episode of the fourth season, entitled, “The 21-Second Excitation,” includes two subplots: the boys try to attend a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark screening featuring 21-seconds of yet unseen footage while the girls enjoy a slumber party at Penny’s apartment. Both plots provide lots of laughs with witty dialogue and clever banter between the various (mostly intelligent) characters.
Most of the characters shined in this very funny episode that included more physical comedy than usual. Still, some characters provided the audience with more hilarious moments than others. Here is the weekly Laugh Grades for the cast of “The Big Bang Theory.”
Sheldon – Grade A+
As usual, Sheldon provides the comedic heavy lifting for the show, shining in every scene featuring the boys. From calling Leonard “Short Round” in an homage to Indiana Jones to repeating “I informed you thusly” to his friends after correctly anticipating a long line at the screening, Sheldon dominated the episode. Sheldon following Wil Wheaton’s Tweets and calling Wheaton the Jar Jar Binks of the Star Trek Universe put him into A+ territory.
Amy – Grade A
Of course the female version of Sheldon brought lots of laughs to this episode as well. Amy argues her way into Penny’s slumber party simply by repeating, “I’m a girl!” Once she arrives, she asks wildly inappropriate questions about Bernadette’s girly parts and attempts lesbian relations with Penny.
Penny – Grade A
Penny (last name unknown) earns an A just for her reactions to Amy’s escapades. Penny always gives hilarious facial expressions showing her confusion after talking with the various brilliant yet socially awkward friends.
Bernadette – Grade A
Howard’s girlfriend loved Amy’s lusty reading of Chauncer’s “The Miller’s Wife” from “The Canterbury Tales.” Bernadette admits she would have chosen to eat raw cookie dough instead of attempting to enjoy a night of lesbianism with Penny (as Amy attempted).
Raj, Howard and Leonard – Grade B+
These guys suffered only because they were not given as much to do as the other characters. Raj and Howard speculate about whether Leonard’s inadequacy in the bedroom doomed his relationship with Penny, and Leonard plays the straight man for Sheldon for the majority of the episode. Howard enjoys a “stadium buddy” allowing him to pee while waiting in line while Raj points out that whistling for Sheldon will not work, correctly noting that Sheldon “is not Marmaduke.”
