Cathy Jamison is a high school teacher played by Laura Linney who discovers she has terminal melanoma and makes drastic changes in her once boring life. In this episode Cathy is in the classroom and has to make copies of several copies. Andrea tells her that she is making a lot of copies lately and must suspect something is going on with the painter man who she also finds attractive even though he is much older than her. She is having sex with him again and he asks her what the lump is on her behind and she brushes it off as nothing much, but goes to the doctor right after her encounter.
At the doctor’s office, she is being checked and the doctor tells her that it is sign of the metastasis. She wants to have the lump removed and the doctor tells her that she must have someone pick her up because she will be sedated. While at his office she notices that there are brochures for a charity bathtub race. Her husband and son used to always do this and it would be great to do it again. So the guys get out the old bathtub and prepare for the race.
When Cathy goes into the house, she discovers Sean looking through her kitchen drawers. He is all beaten up and shows her his chest where he believes he has cracked ribs. His sleeping bag was being robbed while he was still in it and he did not go into further details, but Cathy insisted after he refused to go to the hospital that he will stay there until he is healed. Sean compromised and agreed to stay in the yard.
Cathy goes to Marlene and asks her for a ride to and from the hospital. Marlene agrees this one time but tells her that she is almost eighty years old and she better find someone else if there is to be a next time. Marlene is against her wishes of not telling her family.
Cathy goes to tell her painter man that she can no longer have an affair with him and Andrea sees her talking with him and his hands on her shoulders.
The day of the bathtub race comes and they are all dressed in their “Drain Gang” tee shirts, Marlene is there and so is Sean to root them on and sure enough, they win.
As they are preparing for the party they are going to have after the race and because they had sex together the night before, Cathy tells Paul that she has something to tell him. He interrupts and tells her that he got a hand job from rugby slut. As he is saying how sorry he is; they start to have an argument and Adam overhears and gets mad at her and storms out of the party.
Adam is shown talking to Andrea and trying to see if she can find a reason why his mother is acting the way she is. Andrea has already arrived at the school earlier that day with a spray paint can and written the two words starting with F and ending with K and the work YOU across the lovely mural that Lenny the painter man has done.
Cathy’s is done with her surgery and Marlene is nowhere to be found, so Cathy calls her. They show her looking in her refrigerator as the phone is ringing in the background. While she has the door open, we see her slipped inside the refrigerator and she ignores the phone. Cathy then makes a call to Lenny who picks her up in his convertible and instead of taking her home, they take off somewhere as the episode ends.
