Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, marked the 5th annual Brooklyn Book Festival. This yearly event brings thousands of book lovers together for one day in downtown Brooklyn. This year, the festival showcased over 200 authors in panel discussions and readings. It also featured over 150 publishers, booksellers and organizations all within this outdoor literary marketplace.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz gave a statement saying, “Brooklyn is already home to many of the world’s greatest writers, we now have a festival that gathers the rest of the best from across the nation and around the world.”
When the festival was first launched, it was a very modest event geared towards many great writers. Now, it has grown to a huge event where New York City can continue to have its love affair of books, along with the rest of the literary world.
The Brooklyn Book Festival featured many celebrity guests this year including comedian Sarah Silverman and tennis player Venus Williams, among others. The festival is sponsored by many Brooklyn partners, including Con Edison, Skylight One Hanson and Target.
