Cheeseburgers are my comfort food of choice. I have a small list of reasons. I loved cheese, and I was immediately impressed by how it dressed up hamburger the first time I tried it. I have always been able to afford hamburger; I see no point in finding comfort in food outside of my most economical price range. And as a child there was a place called Tastee Freeze that was in walking distance, my parents didn’t have a car, we visited fairly often.
Because of my love of cheeseburgers I have checked them out at several different restaurants. When I’m looking for something quick and inexpensive I like Burger King and Wendy’s. There is something about the preparation of Burger King’s burgers that has always made them stand out for me, I believe the company says this is they broil, rather than fry, a burger. As for Wendy’s, their burgers are fresher tasting than the usual fast food.
I suspect my love of cheeseburgers is shared by many, because gourmet burgers are becoming more and more common. I have checked some of these places. One of my favorite place is Red Robin. They make excellent burgers, but there big selling point is the wide range of toppings that cater to most people’s taste preferences. Another great choice is Paradise Pup, their cheeseburgers are of excellent quality, but I must confess the most memorable part of my visit was the fries. They can be a meal in themselves. Their most impressive offering is the 3-layer famous fries. They are a delicious combination of sour cream, bacon bits and melted cheese.
However, the best cheeseburger I have found to-date is at Omega Restaurant and Bakery. The restaurant has three Chicago area locations: Niles, Downers Grove, and Crestwood. The ingredients are high quality and the meat is cooked to order. The portions are very generous. The burgers can be ordered as a meal with soup and fries for about $8.00.
