It was a dark and stormy night. The trees scratched on the windows and the wind howled in the night air. The moon was beaming it’s bright light down on the house below. The shutters slammed against the house as it creaked and groaned in the wind. Haley was inside getting ready for a Halloween party when she heard a knock at the door……Boom! Boom! Boom! It was so loud the house seemed to shutter in fear. She crept down the stairs to take a look out the window. When she pulled back the curtain, there stood a tall hooded figure lurking at her door. She reluctantly said “Who is it?” in a small shaky voice. The hooded figure replied, “Open the door, and you shall see.” Haley screamed out “No!” and the figure vanished into thin air. Haley raced back upstairs waiting for the spooky man to return. The house was quiet. Haley, living close to the college dorms, figured that it must be some college pranksters out for a night of fun. She finished getting ready for the party, dismissing the hooded figure, and was on her way.
The next night Haley was awaken from her sleep by the a loud booming knock at the door. She looked at the clock, it read 2:00 am. “Who could be knocking on my door at this hour?” she thought, as she pulled herself from her warm bed and into the cold night air. Haley made her way to the window to look who was there. It was the same dark hooded figure standing at her door. “What do you want?” Haley asked. “If you open the door, my plan you will see, I have come for what is owed to me.” it replied, in a deep raspy voice. “I am in no mood for your childish pranks!” she yelled. “It’s two am and I have to work in the morning. Leave me alone!” Haley briskly turned and stormed back to bed, stopping to double check the locks on the doors and windows on the way. She tucked herself back into bed, and fell quickly back into dreamland.
On the third night, Haley anticipated hearing the knock on her door again. When she did hear it, she would be ready to give those kids a piece of her mind! She stayed up late watching t.v., waiting for the knock at the door. Every second felt like an eternity. Every tiny noise as loud as a train. She waited for something, anything to happen……..nothing. All was quiet and no knock on the door. She though, she must have scared them off last night, for good. Haley turned off the television and headed to bed. Around 4 am. the booming knock had returned. Haley jumped out of bed, grabbed her robe, an headed downstairs to give the pranksters a good yellin’ at. When she reached the door, she flew it open, and started to yell out; but was abruptly halted by the image standing before her. There stood the dark hooded figure, that she had seen the nights before. He slowly raised his head to reveal a skeleton face with a bone chilling grin. The hooded figure looked at her and said “Thank you. Now you will see what shall be and I can collect whats owed to me.” and with that he whirled past her into the house, causing pictures to fly off the walls and items off the shelves.
Haley scrambled to her feet and reached for the front door. With a wave of the hooded figures arm, The hooded figure waved his bony hand, and the door shut and locked before she could get there. “Who are you? What do you want?” Haley turned and asked. The figure replied, “Your parents owe a debt, it is time for me to collect.” Haley replied, “My parents died when I was just a child. What debt could there be?”. The hooded figure explains, “You should have died too, but your parents bargained your life, for a fee. So now, your life has been lived, my fee is due to me” “What is the fee?” Haley asked. “What do you need?”. The hooded figure stretched out his bony finger and pointed to her, “Your soul is my fee!” Haley raced for the back door, but the hooded skeleton, was already there. He yells, “There is no escape. Your time has been spent. Your soul belongs to me!” Haley screams out “No!” as the hooded figured thrusts his bony hand deep into her chest, pulling out her condemned soul. Haley’s limp body falls to the floor, lifeless, soulless, and cold. The hooded figure chuckled with glee, for he grows stronger and stronger, with every collected fee.
