If you live in the Missouri area and like a good scare then you are sure to like The Darkness. The Darkness is one of the best haunted attractions in the area and many even consider it one of the best haunted attractions in the entire country. What makes this attractions so good that many consider better then all others? You need to read on to find out, that is if you dare.
The Darkness is located at 1525 South 8th Street, St. Louis, Missouri. The Darkness is open not only every weekend of October and all week before Halloween but it is also open the last two weekends in September and the first weekend in November. The tickets are expensive though at $50 they are the most expensive tickets for a haunted attractions. To be honest I am not sure if it is worth it. If you have to drive far for this attraction you may want to go to another closer attractions. The South has some other great attractions like Netherworld in Atlanta. If you do not want to wait in line you can pay even more. The cost does get you into 3 attractions though.
The Darkness has been open for over a decade. The attraction is horror oriented but it is also sci-fi oriented. There are tons of animatronics in the attraction. There is lots to see as you walk through the attractions though they hope some of the things you wont see until it is to late. One good scare is they have one area with lots of plants in a amazing jungle set and people are dressed in plant costumes and it can be hard to tell the people from the plants in the dark and they scare many people.
The set design is one of the best parts of The Darkness. They have an amazing jungle. There is a a pyramid section that looks fantastic, probably with more detail then a real pyramid. The one thing that I think they have the very best of sets. The only bad part is that it is dark and people are trying to scare you. I would enjoy just walking through the sets and taking my time to look at the detail and how they made them.
The Darkness really relies on modern technology. While they do have people and use people to scare they do not seem to have as many workers to help scare they seem to rely mostly on technology. Having fewer people make them more effective when they do scare.
Besides the main haunted house there is also TerrorVisions 3D which is another haunted house but you wear special glasses. The glasses distort things and add a shimmer to them. This haunted house is kind of like a comic or cartoon but scary. There is also an interesting museum and gift shop but it should not count as a third attraction especially since its half store.
Overall the sets were amazing, the tech some of the best. The one major downfall is the price. If you do not mind spending the money and are close then go but if you do not want to shell out twice as much as any other similar house then go somewhere else.
