When does the Time Change Occur in 2010?
The time to set our clocks ahead and back occur twice a year. We set our clocks forward at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March. The time to set our clocks back happens on the first Sunday in the month of November. In 2007, Daylight Saving Time was expanded by one month. We revert to standard time in November.
For 2010 the time change back one hour happens at 2AM on November 7th 2010. The clocks will remain on standard time until March 13th, 2011. At that time we make the change once again to Daylight Time at 2 AM.
Why is there a time change in the middle of the night?
Most people make the change to the clocks in their home either the night before or by the next morning. The time change occurs early in the morning so that there is minimal impact to business and commerce. At that late hour, only bars. Since the bars in many states are open until 2AM they may get an extra hour to server alcohol. However, some laws are in place in some states that disallow the serving of alcohol during the extra hour in the Fall.
How to remember how the clock change occurs.
There is an easy saying the you can use to remember how to make the time change. It is simply “spring forward, fall back.” In the United States each time zone makes the change when they hit the 2 o’clock hour. In Europe, the time change occurs all at once.
There are some places in the United States that do not observe Daylight Saving Time. These include many places in the Pacific region, like Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Mariana Islands. In the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Daylight Saving is not observed.
When you make the clock change in March and November, it is also a good idea to change your smoke detector batteries. If you have any carbon monoxide detectors in the home, then it is also a good idea to check these during the time change.
During the change in the Fall you get an extra hour of sleep, if you plan your time change, and get to bed the night before. This is a good time to catch some extra sleep on the weekend! At the normal time that you go to bed, set your clocks back an hour. Then get up at your regular time on the new standard time, and you will have an extra hour of sleep under your belt with the time change!
