There are some new books out there on fasting: I haven’t bought them yet, because I like for new books to “age” a little so they will go down in price It also gives me time to see if their hype actually takes off and if their ideas have some staying power. I actually buy a lot of these books sometimes at a used book store in Chattanooga, Tennessee for 50 cents each-and most of them sell for around 50 cents apiece. That is how quickly diet books often go out of vogue.
People fast for many reasons: religious and spirituality, for weight loss, to give the body a break, cleansing, de-toxing, etc.
All of these are valid reasons and I certainly don’t have the space here to discuss the hows and whys. But consider this:
You can reap the health benefits of a fast every single waking day.
Shut down your kitchen at eight p.m. every single night and do not eat another bite of food. Drink only water.
This is very important~~no eating after eight.
But let’s go further: What if you finished your last meal by six pm? Provided you only put water in your mouth until bedtime, then you would be set up for a night long fast. If you had your breakfast (which really does mean BREAK – FAST) after 6 AM, then you would have just finished a 12 hour fast! Mainly while you slept! How easy is that?
And if you waited until 8 am for your BREAK – FAST, then you would have a 14 hour fast behind you. Then if you ate a small raw fruit breakfast, say a fruit smoothie or oranges, a banana, grapes, an apple, etc., until noon, then you would have made it 18 hours without the carbs and heavy foods that weigh down the body and push it into overdrive.
Try it for one day. Just try it.
Finish your last meal by 6 pm.
Have no snacks after dinner. Drink plenty of water.
Upon rising, drink a large glass of water with fresh lemon or lime.
Prepare a fruit breakfast (which is very high water content) of a smoothie made of fresh squeezed fruit juice, an apple and grapes, or cantaloupe~~the sky is the limit: strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, mango, whatever floats your boat.
NOTE: Only consume fresh fruit, or fruit you have frozen yourself like cantaloupe freezer packs: never bottled or canned. Processing fruit just cooks it onto pure sugar as it is cooked at high heats.
If you are hungry before noon, then just have another piece of fruit!
I guarantee you will feel incredibly light, energetic and will speed along weight loss. Remember the only way to control diabetes or prevent it from happening in the first place is to lose the weight. Eating this way has removed eighty pounds from my body and I have never put any of it back on, even when I skip up from time to time!
This is primarily how I eat these days. I only consume fresh fruit in the mornings 99% of the month. Occasionally, I have a boiled egg with a protein, or an egg white omelet with veggies.
For the rest of the day, keep the light-feeling by eating low-carb (not no carb) with fresh lean proteins and plenty of raw and steamed vegetables.
Give it a whirl. Try it!
