“The Event” Season 1 Episode 6 “Loyalty” starts with Sophia still riding the metro train. When Thomas contacts her, she is very cross at the methods she used to get her sprung. Not to worry, Thomas replies, no one died-this time.
Thinking that the perfidious humans put a tracking device in her clothes, Thomas has left Sophia a change of clothes. But, as it turns out, the perfidious humans are also clever. They put a radioactive isotope in Sophia’s food.
Unfortunately, the mole within the government, one Simon, is able to warn Thomas about this. Simon is able to deal with this problem by steering Sophia off the train to a coffee shop where he slipped some more of the isotope into other peoples’ coffee. While other targets pop up on the monitor screen, Sophia slips away.
Simon remembers how, in 1954, while under the name Mason, he fell in love with a beautiful human girl named Violet. But, as happens when an immortal falls for a mortal, he had to leave her.
Ten years before The Event, Simon ran into Violet, now an old lady with Alzheimer’s, who yet recognized him as Mason. It is a sad occasion, to be sure.
Meanwhile, back in Texas, Collier, Sean, and Leigh interrogate Carter, who is a hard case indeed before Leigh starts thumping on his wound. Carter blurts out that Leigh’s dad “brought this on himself.” So Sean and Leigh take off back to Leigh’s house to search for clues.
Eventually they find a folder filled with clippings and such about the facility in Alaska and the detainees. A rather disturbed woman named Madeline shows up with a gun, burbling about conspiracies and aliens as such fit for a character from “The X Files.” It looks like daddy was in it far more than anyone previously suspected.
Simon is blown, having been caught pilfering the radioactive isotope, and has to stuff one of his own into the trunk of a car. Simon shows up at the abandoned building where Thomas and now Sophia are just ahead of his friend Garret and a bunch of heavily armed FBI men.
The episode ends with another spectacular display of alien power that involves another portal; lots of falling debris; and Sophia, Thomas, and it looks like Simon vanishing into the crater where the building once stood seconds before.
So now, besides the aliens, the government that knows about the aliens, the government that doesn’t know, and whomever Vicky works for, we have Mad Madeline, the former journalist whose website keeps getting hacked down by whomever. What next? The Illuminati? Or maybe there will be a unified field theory tying all the various conspiracies together.
