When I was in high school, Hollywood decided to come to my small town and film a movie called Disorganized Crime. It was about some criminals that come to our small town and rob a bank. The bank was really a realtor’s office on Main Street . The movie did not do very well at the box office. However, it was really exciting to see them make a movie.
I think the director of the movie lived in the Bitterroot Valley so he decided to make a movie in Hamilton, Montana. The movie stared Ed O’Neil, Lou Diamond Phillips, Corbin Bernsen, Hoyt Axton, and Fred Gwynne.
The movie did include local people from the town. Also, my friend’s dad provided guns for the movie so I did go with him on the set. They would let the public watch the filming from certain areas. It was kind of boring on the set because they it took forever to film one scene at night. I remember they continuously wet down the street and had a huge light on truck. It also seemed like they filmed the same scene over and over. I remember them filming a car driving up the street over and over again. I did go sit in Lou Diamond Phillips chair. I also did get a chance to meet him. He seemed like a really nice guy.
I remember one scene on Main Street where the director yelled action and bunch of people were up on building looking over the top. The director yelled cut. I guess they ruined that scene. Also, my friend’s mom had a saloon where they filmed a scene behind it. They spent hours fixing up the alley behind her saloon to film a scene. I don’t know if the scene got in the movie.
I also played racquet ball at the local health club at that time. The owner asked me if I wanted to play with a guy from New York . I said fine. He played handball and showed me how to play. I was also playing high school football at the time. He said he played with Steelers so he was giving me pointers on football and how guys used to time their steps to hit people. I really was not that great of football player at the time. He did pick up racquet ball really quick. However, he did curse a lot at the time. Well it turns out it was Ed O’Neil. This was before his show Married with Children. Every time I watch the show I just laugh and think to myself that I played racquet ball and got football advice with Al Bundy. I should have gotten an autograph at the time. I have written his fan club to get an autograph, but I have received no response.
I also went to a BBQ and bad mitten with Daniel Roebuck. I have seen him on TV several times since the movie. I really did not know he was in the movie at the time.
They had the premier of the movie at our local theatre. It was big event. People were really dressed up and there was a catered event after. I went and helped filmed it for our local TV station. It was a good memory. I watched the movie several times. It was really fun to see the locals and all the landmarks in the movie. I remember that there was scene in the movie that was supposed to on the Bitterroot River. However, it did not look like it all and the river sequences were not right as I had floated the river numerous in our canoe. I guess that is Hollywood . It was fun watching them make the movie and meeting some of the stars. However, the movie did not do very good at the box office.
