Whether you’re at work, at home, or at school there are many different sources of bacteria. As flu and cold season quickly approach it is now more important than ever to begin prevention. Drinking lots of fluids to stay hydrated and get the proper amounts of vitamin C are just the beginning. A new wave in technology will help keep the germs at bay. Think of how much time an individual spends on a computer each day, also think about how many other people use that very same computer. Whether you are thinking of your ill child, co-workers, or a thousand others on a college campus the conclusion is the same. Computer keyboards are a breeding ground for bacteria but with the Germ Genie we can all hit those keys worry-free.
The Germ Genie will be launched during the second week in October. Falcon Innovations is responsible for the development and the University of Hertfordshire is where it was tested out. The first group to see this product commercially will be those in attendance of the Hospital Infection Society.
On most of the keyboard 99% of germs are killed in less than two minutes. Some areas of the keyboard take longer to sanitize so a few parts take approximately ten minutes to be considered germ free. This Germ Genie can sense where fingers touch the keyboard and when students are done using it a UV light will sanitize the keyboard.
It is impossible to say how many people will benefit from this breakthrough in germ fighting technology. There will be less students out with colds and the flu and the keyboard has also proved to kill bacteria that cause E. Coli. The benefit that this product will provide is directly tied to the number of people that purchase it. College campuses and corporations will be discounts for buying the product in bulk and it has not yet been released what the price for an individual keyboard will cost.
This product could really change the reputation of winter as the season for the common cold. Many don’t realize just how much time we spend on a computer each day and how many other people use them. By killing 99% of the bacteria on this common use item it will be reducing how far an illness can spread. Each year there are schools where nearly half the school is out sick or jobs where nearly one-third of the staff took a sick day and are actually sick. This product will keep the children in schools and let you save some of those sick days for other illnesses or personal health days.
