Trying to incorporate more fish into my family’s weekly dinners, I am always on the look out for different brands and types of fish to serve my family. Browsing through my local grocery store’s frozen foods aisle, I spotted The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets. Not being familiar with this brand, I was willing to take a chance and see if my family liked this frozen flounder. The following is a review of this frozen food item.
The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets is packaged in a two pound bag that is priced at only $5.99. Considering I have paid upwards of seven dollars for the same weight package of competitor’s frozen flounder, I felt this was a very good price. The front of the bag shows a very tasty looking piece of fish garnished with a lemon wedge next to bunch of broccoli and serving of tomato onion salad. The picture definitely encourages healthy eating and advertises the fish nicely.
Preparation of The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets is quick and easy. The back of the package states several recipes for the fish, both with breading and without and states instructions for the proper thawing of the flounder fillet. After thawing my flounder, I prepared it the way my family likes it the best. No breading, but with olive oil, minced onion, pepper and a splash of garlic salt. After preheating the oven to four hundred and fifty degrees, I place the glass baking dish with the seasoned fish fillets in the oven. The package states that this fish should be thoroughly cooked in eight to ten minutes, but my oven took about fifteen minutes to result in fish that flaked with a fork. I then removed the dish from the oven and allowed the fish to sit for one minute before serving.
There are approximately eight servings in each two pound package of The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets. Each four ounce raw serving of the fish contains only one hundred and twenty five calories. There is a total of two grams of Fat, with zero grams of Saturated or Trans Fat. There is eighty milligrams of Cholesterol and one hundred and ten milligrams of Sodium per serving. There is twenty five grams of Protein, two percent of Calcium and two percent of Iron in each serving.
My family and I were very impressed with the outcome of The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets. The fillets are nice and long in size, which makes them very filling. They cooked up nicely in a traditional oven and absorbed the spices I added to the fish beautifully. My little one, who is not the biggest fish lover in the world, happily ate her portion of fish which really pleased me. We all found the fish to be very tasty, and I enjoyed the low cost and the ease in which it was prepared. With a side of salad, brown rice and broccoli florets, I was able to whip up a low calorie and nutritious dinner for my loved ones in a flash. Overall, I would give The Great Fish Co. Flounder Fillets five out five food stars. I will surely be purchasing this frozen fish again and definitely recommend it to others who enjoy flounder.
