If Matt Leinart could have stayed in college at USC for the rest of his life there is no doubt he would have. This isn’t in reference to his lackluster pro career. This is more about his college glory and the perfect situation he had as a Trojan.
In a day when elite athletes love to leave college early to get to the pro level, Leinart was different. Very different. It didn’t seem like he wanted to go to the riches of the NFL. He was content where he was.
While other college football players hold press conferences to declare they are leaving school after their junior year, Leinart held one to announce he was staying at USC.
Who could blame him? He had everything there. He wasn’t going to get the same great situation in the NFL no matter what team he went to.
You could just tell that he was having the time of his life at USC. Surrounding by very athletic receivers and talented running backs, Leinart could just throw the ball up and have his teammates catch it and then elude tacklers if need be.
That is what USC offered. They, of course, gave Leinart much more than that. Yeah, the titles and the great records were good but the social life was even better. It was what every young guy in the country would want.
As the quarterback you’re like a golden boy. This is even more evident when your team is one of the greatest in the country. Yeah, Reggie Bush was a great player but Leinart was the guy everybody wanted to be. Who could blame them for idolizing Leinart?
Leinart was the guy everybody envies. He was the prototype of California cool. He was living the life. He had everything and nothing hindered him. All of this while being a college athlete.
Every girl wanted him. He partied like crazy. Everybody wanted to be around him. He lived it up the way everybody would wish to if they were in his situation.
California is the perfect state to live this kind of life. Where else could Leinart have dominated like he did and received the great benefits that come with the state?
The state has been great to even a guy like Brody Jenner. Jenner, much less talented than Leinart, seemed to date many of the same girls that the star quarterback did. If the location is so great to Jenner then you know it was infinitely good to Leinart.
Leinart is an example of money not able to buy happiness. Look at his college career against his time as a pro. There is no argument on what he would pick between the two. It wouldn’t be the money.
