In the valley between Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia, it is obvious that Christmas is right around the corner! Lights are going up all around the neighborhoods, families are receiving their house guests, and loved ones are shopping for their perfect gifts. And who could forget the smell of warm apple pie drifting into the air. Are you are looking for some fresh apples for a Christmas cobbler? Your holiday dinner would not be complete with some fresh vegetables either! Sure you could go to the supermarket and pick up some items there, but have you ever stopped to think about the quality of the food you are purchasing? Plus, it is always better to shop local. Local businesses have been declining for a number of years now, and what better way to promote local businesses than eating healthy?
The Halfway Market is one such farmer’s market. There are two locations, one located on Teays Valley Road in Hurricane, West Virginia, across the street from West Teays Elementary School; the other on US Route 60 in Milton, West Virginia, next to the Milton Flea Market. Both locations are very easy to find, and you will not have any trouble finding a parking space, whereas both locations have ample parking.
Walking into the Halfway Market, it smells as if you have just walked into a sweet country kitchen. The smell of Golden Delicious apples invites you into the warm and friendly atmosphere. The Halfway Market has a touch of West Virginia history to it as well; the walls are made from sturdy rough-cut lumber, and the entire building is filled with antique décor, some of which is even purchasable!
The employees at the Halfway Market also seem very friendly and helpful. They are quick to show you around the store, and even tell you where each individual product was made. If you’re not a fan of having someone else show you around, that’s okay too, because under each product, there is a sign telling you the product history.
And if you think eating healthy is too costly, think again! The Halfway Market has some of the best prices in town, not to mention the quality of the food is much fresher than what you would find in a large chain grocery.
So for a fast, friendly and welcoming shopping experience, I would definitely recommend The Halfway Market. Their holiday hours of operation are: Monday through Saturday 8:00am-6:00pm and Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm.
