Originally I am from a town called Brighton, which is located on the south coast of England. I was raised by my parents who had never attended church in their adult lives and thus I was raised believing that you did not need to go to church or believe in god, I guess you could say I came from a family of atheists. Growing up I never gave religion a thought! I believed that people who went to church or who watched the Sunday morning sermons on tv were just wasting their time, being brain washed., I went though my young, adult life without a care in the world.
One evening while on the computer, I was in a chat room talking with some friends. Someone else entered the room and she said hi. I sent her a private message and we got to talking. Turns out she was from Oklahoma, and she was the same age as me, 18. We talked for a few minutes during that June evening of 1999. We exchanged email addresses and went from there. We got on so well that exactly one year after meeting online, we decided to meet in person. I flew to DFW in TX where she was there to meet me. She drove us back to Oklahoma, I was going to be staying with her and her family in their home for 2 weeks. It was an exciting time, until the first Sunday morning came around. I was asked if i wanted to join them at their congregation. Not wanting to be rude, I agreed and i went with them. The congregation was located in Ardmore, Oklahoma and the church was the Church of Christ.
As soon as we entered I felt welcome. Everyone was so nice and friendly! It felt like they had known me for years, I was blown away by everyone’s hospitality. I remember the lesson and thought that the stories were very interesting. I went that following Wednesday and that following Sunday as well. After my 2 week stay came to an end I returned to England, confused. I did not however attend church when I got back home. My new girlfriend and I had decided that I should come back, so I made another trip to Oklahoma in November 2000 and this time stayed for 3 months. Every Wednesday and every Sunday I would go to church with them. I started believing in the word of the bible and my hunger for more information was huge! That December 2000 I proposed to my girlfriend from Oklahoma and she said yes. In January 2001 I went back home to England. My fiancee visited me twice that year! We found a small Church of Christ with a congregation of just 3 people in my home town of Brighton. England. We went every Wednesday and every Sunday. Even when my fiancee went back home to the states, I would still attend.
April 2002, I moved to the states to marry my beautiful Fiancee! In May of 2002 I was baptised by my soon to be father in law! It was one of the best days of my life! I will never forget how I felt! How loved I felt! The piece of mind it created was immense. My Fiancee and me got married on June 15th 2002 and we have now been married for 8 years and have 2 beautiful children, who are also being raised as Christians! I could not be any happier with my life!
