Dede Koswara is an Indonesian man who is known the Tree Man. Koswara earned the nickname Tree Man because of growths that are wood-like that protrude from his entire body. His illness has been undiagnosed for a long time but he has been receiving treatment for his illness but doctors are not sure if the Tree Man will recover from his disease enough so he can support his family. Koswara has been suffering from his illness for many years and Koswara has one dream and that dream is to live to see his grandkids.
Each month the tree-like growths grows more then 4 millimeters. Koswara was living a normal life until he hit the age of 15, and that is when he noticed a tree-like growth that appeared on his leg. He went to the doctors and they cut it off but the growth just grew back much faster, and the disease eventually spread to the rest of his body, including his face.
Doctors have been removing giant wood-like growths, really warts and horns from Koswara’s body for the past two years. The growths, warts and horns are caused by a condition called Lewandowsky Lutz dysplasia. It is to early to tell if the surgery was successful but there were some reports going around last year that the growths were coming back.
The man known as the Tree Man has stayed in the hospital for more than four months for the surgeries. When he was in the hospital he texted with woman whom he has hoped to marry one day if he gets better. Koswara, to that point, was supporting his kids by performing with a circus troupe. His kids are from his previous marriage.
We can only hope that Koswara will be able to live long enough to see his grandchildren and that his disease is cured one day.
