October events at the Mountain View Performing Arts Center are currently running Superior Donuts, the recent Broadway success by Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts presented by TheaterWorks. A stellar cast brings you a powerful performance about a Polish donut shop owner who meets various immigrant, vagrant, Irish, and black American characters in Uptown Chicago. Their pains and lives unfold as you will understand the various divides that have come to define Letts’ America. This poignant and though provoking play takes quite a twist at the end, maintains a realistic, gritty tone, and delivers strong humorous punches. The doughnuts raise unexpected passions as the characters also turn out to have hidden passions of their own. The show runs through the end of October. On this night, they received our standing ovation.
The month of November will be bringing children’s shows starting with The Wizard of Oz, running from Nov. 13 – November 21, The Nutcracker by Pacific Ballet on November 26-28, and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs on Nov. 12 -13 by Peninsula Youth Theatre, a Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts’ Home Company, dedicated to providing theatrical learning experience and year-round classes for children ages 3-18 at its Mountain View Studios.
