After three beers and having sat here in the mountains on the back deck of my condo and carrying on a lengthy conversation with more than one chipmunk, it has occured to me that things are quite different than they were yesterday. Or, even the day before today in a metaphorical sense.
I will reveal the specifics of what I am talking about at the end of this post. This is intended to capture your attention. Otherwise, you might think I am wasting your time, which I am.
I am here to tell you that things are changing. Our economy is changing. About a decade ago, emerged the information technology-based economy. Until then, our economy was preferentially a petroleum-based economy and even before that, it was a dinosaur-based economy. And when the dinosaurs died, the carried on in mineral spirit to make oil which we then pumped out of the ground as combustable dinosaur-juice.
So, I guess what I am saying is, our economy has changed. And, change, by definition is always the same. Nah, just kidding there. It always NOT the same and that’s what I am getting at.
So, where do we go from here? The answer is…of course, somewhere else! And, that is most certainly, not where we are right now. I am almost sure of that.
Maybe I should provide some sort of analogy for you. If I go drink another beer, that would be change. Because I would get more buzzy and chatty. But, if I do not drink another beer, that would also be change. Because I would sober up and find it very hard to finish this piece of crap article which was intended to be a stop-gap measure to actual creativity and clear thought because I haven’t even really been able to muster that lately. Until now, of course.
So, how about our future economy? This will almost definitely occur in the period after the one we are experiencing now. The economy of the future, my friends, will be a ether-based economy. Not, the kind of ether where a oxygen is bonded to two separate carbon chains. That is the kind of ether that might be produced indirectly from a petroleum-based economy in a big factory plant in Louisiana. Nor am I talking about the kind of economy where we produce “widgets” and actual stuff. Let China do that. this will be the the kind of economy where we talk in vagaries such as “cloud computing” and “social networks” which are not comprehensible to the normal human mind. They are more or less, ambiguous, non-tangible things that add no value to society, but more or less, waste time and keep people occupied.
And, ya know what? I hate those kind of things! We need the tangible stuff in our lives.
And, so you are probably thinking right now. “Mick, you haven’t said anything that is of any tangible value!” and to that I will tip my hat to you. But that, my friends is all part of the New Normal, which is by no means, an outlier.
So, you, my wonderful friends, have hung in there this long and have been waiting this long for the specifics of this post which I eluded to in the beginning.
And, to this, I can specifically say…
