What is the current trend in Hollywood Dieting? Gluten free eating is the newest trend. Yes, many such as Chelsea Clinton are doing this for health reasons. However, many are eating like this at the suggestion of their nutritionists and trainers. And you know if the Hollywood A crowd many others are quickly following their lead.
What celebrities are following this new way of living? Researchers say that such famous actresses such as:
• Gweyneth Paltrow
• Anne Hathaway
• Mary Louise Parker
• Elisabeth Hasselbeck (she is allergic to gluten)
Yet, is this a healthy way to eat?
When one begins a gluten free way of eating, basically they are removing the gluten protein from their diets. This protein is in most foods we eat from breads, to sauces, to fried chicken to even some types of luncheon meats. This protein is considered a refined carbohydrate that one does not necessarily need for any type of health benefit. Once this carbohydrate or protein is removed from one’s diet one can expect to lose weight. Thus the reason so many celebrities are endorsing this new diet.
However, it can be a diet that is hard to follow. Gluten is found in most of our foods. It can be even harder to stay on a gluten free diet, while eating in restaurants. Although, many restaurants are beginning to cater to gluten free diets, especially since many of the Hollywood elite have joined the ranks of gluten free dieters. Many manufactures have also added lines of gluten free products to their lines and many more products can be found at your local grocery store that are labeled gluten free.
The question many regular people may have is this. Could a gluten free diet help me to lose weight?
Consider this first. A diet in essence actually means the way you eat. If you are eating foods without gluten in them you should consider what other carbohydrates could be added. More than likely the foods will have other added sugars or proteins in them to make them taste good and to make the consumer want to eat them and to want them to buy them again. These sugars and proteins may actually contain more calories than the original gluten does.
So why should a person go on a gluten free diet? A person should go on this type of diet to see if they have an allergy to gluten. About five million Americans suffer from Celiatic disease this is the allergy or intolerance to gluten. Once they eat a food that contains gluten that just don’t feel right. They may feel tired, bloated, etc. This is run down feeling doesn’t really go away if they continue to eat gluten products. This is a reason to cut out gluten products from your diet. If one suspect that they may be suffering from Celiac disease they should disease going on a gluten free diet with a nutritionist or a physician and be tested for the disease.
Will a gluten free diet hurt someone who does not have celiac disease? No, not really. However, you could be eliminating foods that contain a lot of important vitamins and minerals from your diet along with the gluten and not be realizing it. Plus, it can be hard and expensive to stay on this type of diet.
Bottom line is that this may be a celebrity trend you may not want to stick long term.
