Before the conventional attack, that is staged to be a distraction before more unconventional attack can occur on American soil, the planning and staging for a radiological attack has to occur. A fishing vessel that is home ported in Bandar Abbas leaves for a fishing trip in the Indian Ocean. Loaded on this fishing vessel are rods of depleted Uranium 235 from the 2 year old Iran Nuclear power facility.
This fishing vessel rendezvous with a cargo ship in the Southern Indian Ocean south of the Seychelles Islands and transfers its nuclear cargo of Uranium and key personnel to it. This cargo ship is equipped with an Automated Identification System (AIS) and is transmitting that it is transiting through the Suez Canal and exiting the Straits of Gibraltar to unload its cargo of furniture in Nantes, France.
While the ship is transiting on the West Coast of Spain and Portugal, the cargo of uranium and personnel are again transferred to a large Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) container ship that is transiting across the Atlantic to Boston, Massachusetts. This LNG ship is scheduled to make its delivery in Everett, Massachusetts on 14 April. They are transmitting on their AIS the correct information, minus the extra unknown cargo of uranium 235. There are no indications in America that anything is amiss.
The crew on the LNG ship is multi-cultural, with some being from Pakistan, and the Captain is from China. The ship is owned by GDF Suez and flagged under the country of Belize. The Pakistani members of the crew and the Captain are also members of Al Qaeda and the Timer Tigers. They hold a deep resentment to the United States for their intervention in Middle Eastern affairs, the recognition of Taiwan, and not recognizing Shi Lankan independence.
It is a 10 day transit across the Atlantic at 20 knots before the LNG will reach Boston Harbor. During this transit period the Pakistani crew members place the uranium 235 rods above the bow LNG container in-between the first and second hull structure. It is masqueraded to the other crew as some special hull maintenance that only the Pakistani’s are trained in (It is a common occurrence to conduct radiography on steel hulls. But it’s odd to do it underway.). At the same time the Pakistanis are placing high explosive beneath the bow LNG container between the first and second hull.
The LNG container ship proceeds on the normal route it routinely takes towards Boston Harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard, District 1, located in Boston is monitoring the ship’s arrival and has sent maritime security teams to board and inspect the vessel before arrival into port. However, since this is a routine port call and the uranium is located in between hull sections the security team will not detect it. Moreover, since the uranium is shielded by the LNG container, the radiological monitoring devices the security team wear, will not detect it. The Coast Guard sent pilot vessels and escort ships to safely bring the large LNG ship into port.
At the same time as the LNG ship is arriving into Boston harbor, two planes are hijacked leaving Newark International Airport. The country is put on high alert fearing another 9/11 style attack. All planes are ordered to be grounded. All focus is on these two planes that are still in the air. One of the planes is heading towards New York City and the other plane is heading towards Washington D.C. The pilots of these planes state that they intend to fly the planes into buildings in memory of the ‘heroic efforts’ of the 9/11 masterminds. The president then orders these planes to be shot down.
Both of the planes are shot down over New Jersey by Navy F16s. About 100 American civilians on these planes die. As a precautionary maneuver the Coast Guard Cutters stationed in New Bedford Mass went to protect New York harbor.
The LNG tanker is still on schedule and entering Boston harbor. As the tanker entered the harbor and passes the Ted Williams overpass, the explosion occurs rupturing the tanker and spreading the uranium 235 airborne. The explosion is so large that windows on the John Hancock building rupture and fall to the street. The Prudential Center in Downtown Boston rocks and its windows fall. The First responders in Boston cannot handle the amount of devastation this LNG tanker causes.
It is soon discovered about the release of radiological material from the explosion. About a three mile radius area in South Boston and Dorchester Heights are contaminated. This affects a population of about 100,000 people that are living and working in the greater Boston area. The blast kills thousands of tourists visiting the greater Boston Area at the New England Aquarium, Museum of Science and other local attractions.
The explosion has damaged the highway (RT 93) leaving Boston. It has secured the following subways systems: red, green and orange line. The Amtrak rail system is secured. The Ted Williams tunnel to Logan international airport is deemed unsafe. Therefore there is only one entry into Logan airport which is through the north end. However, flights are still secure from the plane hijacking. Lastly the south Boston harbor remains on fire from the LNG explosion along with many buildings around the harbor. The majority of the subways, highways, harbor and air travel in and out of Boston are secured from this explosion.The National Guard is mobilized to aid first responders and the military has deployed decontamination teams to aid in recovery efforts. An explosion of this magnitude would take years to recover from. It has burned most of the buildings in South Boston, contaminated the majority of South Boston and Dorchester. It has destroyed travel in and out Boston for at least a year making future commerce close to impossible.
