As a “Kindle Addict,” I knew that I would have to purchase a carrying case. I’m one of those guys that just has to have their Kindle with them at all times, since I truly love their wireless e-reader, and have the newest wi-fi generation device. The prices are now affordable for anyone to pick up either an Amazon Kindle, or other ereaders, and its fantastic being able to go “paperless.” Its more environmentally friendly, and my wife doesn’t complain about the bookshelf looking like it could be featured on the television show called “Hoarders.” Reading is something I’ve always appreciated, because even on a bad day, a good book can take you to a destination far away from the “daily grind.” Therefore, I purchased the Amazon Kindle Illuminated Case, which is an essential device for e-reader lovers.
Unlike previous cases, this one has a built in light. There’s no need to get irritated by one of those “attachable types”, that can easily fall off or get lost. All you need to do with this case, is attach your Kindle via the two metallic prongs inside, and the electronic device will power up the light. You pull up the light from the top to use it, and it slides up and down without any effort. This is great for those who might have arthritis, or any other conditions that can lead to a retractable device becoming a headache. The best part is that by it being retractable, it disappears completely when you do not need it. This light is more than durable enough, and it extends about 6″ above your e-reader.
I love the amount of power this little light has. As my wife loves to go to bed early, I am often reading in the late night hours. Thankfully the light focuses on the actual Kindle, so she doesn’t have any complaints about it. You can see the pages and controls with ease. It also doesn’t seem to affect the e-readers power supply, although attaching it for the first time does require a bit of coordination. You have to swivel your Kindle onto the prongs, that are connected on the side, and at first I thought the light didn’t work. Finally after a bit of work, it slid in and secured properly, and I was able to start my “night reading activities.”
You can get this case in a variety of colors, whether from Amazon directly or brick and mortar retailers. I got the black one to match the color of my Kindle, but if you like bright colors, they do have it in orange and incredibly obnoxious blue. The quality of the case is excellent, as its leather, and a string type of strap adds security to your electronic device. I also like the suede interior, which is easy on your hands, and it is lightweight without a lot of bulk. Are you concerned about the durability though?
I’m not at all, as I had one of those moments all clumsy folks go through. I actually dropped my beloved Kindle in this case on an elevator, and worried that I’d be having to buy another one. This case absorbed the force of the drop, and saved my beloved e-reader from any damage. If its strong enough for that, then I do not have a doubt about its strength, although I won’t be doing that again hopefully. At $59.99, it is a bit expensive, but I consider it to be a worthwhile investment for its fine illumination and durability. It is of higher quality than aftermarket cases that I’ve looked at, and having a built in light was a brilliant concept that I am thankful for.
