Filipinos love boxing and in most events, I observed that it is in this sport that we excel. So, no wonder that a Filipino like Manny Pacquiao is the world’s pound-for-pound champion. We are proud that he is a Filipino because in his fights, the Filipinos are with him in spirit. The world seems to stop anytime he has a fight. In my four years in residency training in OB-GYNE, the women in labor only appeared after the games. It was a wonder, but it was true.It seemed that they controlled their labor until the game was through. Mind you, anytime I tried to get a ride on my way home, the jeepneys and taxi cabs rarely plied about. The drivers were busy watching in the terminals and they were reluctant in getting passengers. This coming November 14, he is going to face the taller Antonio Margarito of Mexico for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super welterweight, according to the ESPN. The fight will be in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, U.S.A. He is busy doing a tedious work-outs and sparring to prepare for the event. Both he and Margarito show confidence in winning the said title. However, as I look at the pictures and the videos in his official website, Manny seems to be doing more than what he did.As a Filipino, I feel confident that he will be able to win the fight just the way he did even if the opponent is five inches taller and his body is much more masculine and looks better. I am sure that getting ride will be hard till Manny’s game is over. For sure, many gyms and theaters all over the country will have a big screen so that people can gather and watch the game. The people, rich and poor, mingle and watch with big hopes and prayers for Manny whenever he has a fight. Anytime I get home,I could hear shouts of cheers and jeers from the neighbors, whose houses were open to share comments with their friends.
