The Red Sox need to make a splash. Fans are restless, the sell-out streak is in jeopardy, we just lost Victor, and we didn’t make the playoffs last year. Those are all reasons to sign perennial All-Star and Gold Glove winner Derek Jeter. But do you know the best reason to make an offer to Jeter? To bust the Yankees balls. Jeter is Mr. Yankee, but what would happen if the Sox offer him 3 years at $20 million? Would he leave the evil empire to join the Sox? Wouldn’t it be great to have the chance to find out?
What could happen if the Red Sox do make him an offer? The Yankees have told him to “Drink the reality potion”, let’s give them a new reality. A $20 million a year offer would give the Yankees something to think about. Could they really let him go? If they do, what would the fan reaction in the Big Apple be like? Riot in the streets? Hopefully. And if the Yankees can’t let him escape to Boston, at least the Red Sox grabbed some headlines and put a little hurt on the Yankees pocketbook.
What would the Yankees do without their Golden Boy prancing around at shortstop? I am a Sox fan, I hate the Yankees, but I would take Derek Jeter any day of the week. I wouldn’t take A-Rod – ever, but I would take Jeter. He comes to play every game and he knows how to win. He could play short for the Sox, but what happens with Scutaro and Jed Lowery? Only kidding – who cares?
What is the worst that could happen if the Sox make an offer to the Yankees captain? We either get him or the Yankees pay alot more for him. As far as I am concerned, Sox fans win either way. And that is what it is all about when you are a Red Sox fan – beating the hated Yankees – however we can.
