The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Lecture Series will be held at the Kumble theater on Long Island University’s campus in Downtown Brooklyn on Oct 16th and 17th.
The festival includes a number of films by talented women of color accompanied by a series of talks, concluding with an award ceremony.
The 2010 festival will be the 13th anniversary of it’s beginning with the continuing mission to “cultivate and spotlight the unique talent and struggle of women of color in the film industry.” Films and lectures address issues facing the African American community as well as gender issues, but the goal, is to “empower women filmmakers of African-American, Caribbean, Latin, Asian, and African descent.”
Past years have garnered critical acclaim and 2010 promises to be no different.
Tickets can be purchased for single films or lectures for $7, while a day pass for either Saturday or Sunday costs $15, and a two day pass for the entire festival costs $25. Discounted tickets for students and seniors are also available.
