It must be obvious to everyone that every “body” tells a story. Deciphering the meaning or true intentions of that “story” can be easily done if you recognize the key factors of body language.
In order to fully and correctly determine what a person’s true thoughts are, you must learn to use several different key points because you cannot simply make an analysis based on one isolated gesture or behavior.
Learn to take into account at least three key body gestures which include facial expressions, overall posture, placement of arms, legs or feet and don’t forget to take a special note of how and where a person is standing.
Finding Positive Spirits:
What you feel or think is actually written all over your face. You should be able to pick out the positive people in a room by observing body signs such as good posture, which exhibits a type of warm energy and vice versa, the gloomy person of the room may exhibit poor posture and an overall bad disposition. Unless you are looking for an emotional or possible physical bruising; I would suggest steering clear of people that give off negative body vibes.
Mastering the art of body language can be beneficial for you personally as well. Make yourself feel more confident, open or trustworthy and the opinions of others about you will probably follow suit. Improve Your Attitude: Hold your head up, stand up straight with a hip-width stance, smile not only with your mouth but with your eyes and establish and maintain eye contact. Don’t forget the importance of good posture because hunched shoulders are a tell-tale sign of insecurity or if combined with a drooped down head may indicate a feeling of unhappiness or depression.
If you have ever wondered if a person was either attracted to you, interested in your conversation or just plain bored, then take note of these body signs:
1: People that cross their arms over their chest area may feel threatened and may be attempting to form an invisible barrier around themselves.
2: If a person’s feet are pointed away from you; then they may be plotting an escape away from you. Remember the direction of a person’s feet will indicate where they really want to go and that may be far away from you or what you are saying.
3: People who have placed their index finger on their mouth may be attempting to evaluate you as you speak.
4: People that place their heads close to yours may be exhibiting to you that they feel close or comfortable in your presence. They possibly have a closer emotional tie to you than you have previously realized.
Monkey See, Monkey Do:
A powerful communication strategy that is often used in both business and personal life is the act of mirroring or mimicking another person. Try to match verbal speeds and body movements with the person involved in your conversation. This technique should be used within reason, as you don’t want to make someone feel that you are mocking them. The key point in communication is to connect, not to insult.
The Eyes Hold the Truth:
People in many different societies and cultures have learned how to fake gestures such as smiles, frowns or the portrayal of pain but one human reactionary characteristic that can’t be manipulated artificially is pupil dilation. They say that the eyes are the windows to our souls and this natural pupil reaction is the most accurate reveal of whether or not a viewer is seeing or interacting to something they like or dislike. Take into account, the environment when using this particular method of deciphering body language, as lighting will affect pupil dilation.
