The premiere show of The Talk started off a little slow, as many first-time shows do. The ladies sitting around the table included Leah Remini, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, and Julie Chen. What became obvious pretty quickly is the fact that Remini will be the comic relief for the show, and Chen will be the moderator figure. Of course, Chen’s husband is the producer of the show, so that may play a part in it!
The first celebrity guest on the show was supermodel Christie Brinkley, who was interviewed by Chen, Osbourne, and Remini. The ladies of The Talk wasted no time in getting to the nitty gritty of things. Brinkley admitted that she was wearing spanx under her dress and that she tried botox as she approached her 50th birthday (which she’ll not do again). We then learned that Brinkley maintains her fabulous figure by doing squats while she brushes her teeth, but that’s only if she hasn’t had time to do her Total Gym workout. Keep that in mind, ladies!
A sixth celebrity mother, Marissa Jaret Winokur, took to the streets to find out what age is the right age to discuss sex. This segment was funny, as Winokur has a great sense of humor and approached the topic with ease. By the way, Marissa has a 2-year old son, and most of the people that she talked to agreed that it was too early to begin the sex talk with someone that young.
The show seemed a little rushed for the first go-around. It will take time to work out the kinks and flow of things. But, it has promise. When Sharon Osbourne sits Indian style on the sofa during guest interviews, you know then and there that you’re not watching The View. Some of the issues that exist in the world today may overlap between the two talk shows, but it is very clear that the latest edition of women in television is more focused on parenthood than anything else. As Julie Chen told viewers at the beginning of the show, “We’re here to be your girlfriends.”
There are a lot of big personalities on the show, and it is only a matter of time before things get heated over the different ways to parent. Even Sharon admitted that the first show was “light and nice”, and she implied that maybe on tomorrow’s show everyone’s mask would come off. Stay tuned this week for upcoming guests, like Jennifer Lopez.
