A new restaurant will test the palettes of Sunnyvale residents. India Chaat Cuisine on El Camino Real has combined the taste of north Indian chaat, south Indian thalis, and gives a unique blend of lassi drinks and sweet desserts prepared by an enthusiastic Chef Kedar.
The restaurant opened just five months ago by Sagar Telangi and Samir Patil, who want to give the busy lunch crowd a quick chaat , paratha or idli/sambar. For the more hungrier crowd, try a full Dosa, the crepe filled with potatoes or thali meal (“thali” is a full Indian plate). They also offer catering and reserve the restaurant for up to 90 people.
I have tried most of the chaat appetizers and found it to be unique and enjoyed the spicy chutneys for about $4.99 each. As you may aready know, Indian Chaat is prepared with unique spices to combine a multitude of textures from potatoes, yogurt blend to crispy wafers. I have also enjoyed many of the curries and paratha combos for about $5.99 each, and found it to be in agreement with my digestion. The location is convenient to the Santa Clara business park, and the service has been very friendly. What has made India Chaat Cuisine stand out from the other chaat houses is their dahi papri chaat (yogurt with crispy wafers), batata vada (fried mashed potato), and aloo paratha (whole wheat bread stuffed with potato) with subzis (curry). I have found them to be the best so far.
In comparison with the other chaat houses, India Chaat Cuisine offer more South Indian and Bombay Chaat items and has convenient parking. The prices are comparable with the other restaurants in the area, and you can get a full meal for less than $10. The atmosphere is casual, pleasant, and the chaat is usually served within minutes. On those hot humid days, stop by and try a cold drink at the India Chaat Cuisine!
