” In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican.” Henry Louis Mencken
My family and I am living the thankful life. I have been on a road trip for the past two weeks and I am working on being home by the week of Thanksgiving.
On this road trip, I have been interviewing people trying to get a glimpse of “What Americans Think”. I have attended my daughter’s wedding and spent time with my grand children and really close friends.
I have cooked food for many of them. We have shared moments of thankfulness that are uncommon in our time of collective cultural economic stress. I have come to recognize that my many primary life blessings are the many wonderful, wonder full, and wonder filled relationships that I enjoy. I am living the thankful life.
The Internet Age has precipitated the means to develop friendships with people across Planet Earth that I may never meet face to face that are as meaningful as the people I see everyday. For that I am truly thankful. I am living the thankful life.
The Holy Text of Western Culture for two thousand years speaks to the idea of being thankful and expressing thankfulness. The Bible asserts being thankful to God, reaching up; and to others, reaching out, on a regular basis.
That is a personal mission. The people I love and care for, I want them to know that I am thankful to experience life. I want them to know when I am thinking of them and how I feel about them. I am living the thankful life.
My parents are alive at 81 and 76. My siblings are all alive and their children are well. My wife Bonnie and I share six children, five daughters and one son. These have given us more than 20 grand children and three great grand children. We are living the thankful life.
The experience of suffering can be challenging especially when we are doing without things that are necessary for life. I want to encourage you to do two things this Thanksgiving that can make a real difference in your life. Reach Up with thanks to express gratitude for your life. Reach Out with thanks to express gratitude that you are not alone. Live the thankful life.
