The Tourist trailer is finally out on the Internet. The Tourist trailer gives us our first look at Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp together in the same film, and the trailer at least provides an interesting tease at what the film might provide. It will have to be pretty spectacular when it comes to the writing, though, because the action seems devoid of anything we haven’t seen before. As this is just the first trailer for The Tourist, though, we won’t come down too hard on them for trying to give a lot of screen time to Jolie and Depp the first time around.
The Tourist seems to be roughly about Frank Taylor (played by Depp), who is a tourist traveling on a train in Europe. While on that train, he comes face-to-face with Elise (played by Jolie) and gets roped into something that is far over his head. From just that much information, it sounds like a hundred other films that have been very similar in nature over the years. As would be expected, Frank is drawn into a situation that involves people chasing him with guns, trying to break into his hotel room, and of course the femme-fatale trying to convince him that she is not as nefarious as she might seem.
The biggest draw of The Tourist is of course for movie fans who want to see Depp and Jolie on screen at the same time. They have had huge box office success with their own films recently, and putting them together seemed (at least on paper) to be the perfect match. Just watching the first trailer, though, it almost seems like there is no chemistry between the two actors, and that could end up causing the movie to disappoint audiences. Again, though, this is just a reaction from the first trailer, meaning that there is still about two hours of footage that we haven’t seen of the film to this point.
The Tourist will premiere in U.S. theaters on Friday, Dec. 10, and should see nice box office receipts follow it shortly. It will fill the void of dramatic thrillers during the holiday season, and it does have a very nice supporting cast of Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell to help carry the story. Hopefully that is enough, and that the film works well when it finally opens to wide audiences. It’s great that Hollywood finally teamed up two of the biggest actors in the game right now, but The Tourist may also prove that it isn’t a guaranteed road to success right now.
