If you like a good suspense thriller then you won’t want to miss this event.The College-Conservatory of music at Patricia Corbett Theater at the University of Cincinnati will be performing “The Turn of the Screw” Based on the Henry James 1898 novel and later adapted in to a Opera by Benjamin James.
The story involves a young governess she has been recruited by the
uncle of two children his nephew Miles and niece Flora. The uncle became guardian after the children’s grandparents died. Miles lives at boarding school and Flora lived at the country estate in Essex. So the uncle who lived in London didn’t have time to be bothered with the children hired the young governess to take care of them. Miles was expelled from boarding school for bad behavior and for threatening the other children. He returns to the estate to joined Flora the niece, the young Governess, and the housekeeper Miss Grose at the estate. The Housekeeper explained to the Governess that the former governess Miss Jessel died under mysteries circumstances, she had been secretly be having affair with the man servant Peter Quint and she became pregnant soon after this became known she died. Peter Quint also died shortly after her death also under mysteries circumstances. The housekeeper explained strange happenings the she believe that occurred at the estate in which Miss Jessel and Mr. Quint had sexual relations with the children but she felt threatened by Peter to keep silent and not tell anyone. The Governess also noticed mysterious ghostly like man and woman keep popping up at the estate unquestioned she felt they were a threat to the children. This is play turned opera of the occult, mystery, suspense, sexual repression and corruption of the innocent.
This story plays at the Corbett Theater November 5-7. Show time are
Friday 5 and Saturday the 6th at 8:00pm and Sunday the 7th at 2:30pm.
